We move onto discuss more details about Saturn in this article.Let us see how Saturn functions in the twelve zodiacal signs.Aries: A person born with Saturn in Aries is wrathful, does evildeeds and is devoid of any virtue.Taurus: The person suffers due to his wickedness andfoolishness. Servility is the key characteristic of thisperson.Gemini: The person spends his time travelling; lives away fromnative place and is secretive,deceitful, angry, mean andlustful.Cancer: The behaviour of this person is full ofcontradictions;childhood is full of struggles; lacks maternallove; suffers from ill-health.Leo: The person is committed to study, research and writing;enjoys conjugal happiness; begets wealth and honour fromspouse’s family.Virgo: The person bears a lean body; reticent, affluent butdiscontented; ambitious and arrogant.

When Saturnis about to transit Aries, do we infer that everyone who is bornwhile Saturn is in Aries would be devoid of virtues? No, notnecessarily.Please note that in Aries, Saturn lacksSthanabala(residential strength). However if Saturn in Ariesattains Libra in navamsa, then Saturn will give the effects of anexalted planet. Same is also true while Saturn is in retrograde. IfSaturn in Aries gets aspected by Jupiter, much of Saturn’s evil

qualities are arrested and Saturn yields auspicious results. Sameis true when Mars conjoins Saturn in Aries and gives rise toNeechabhanga raja yoga.Saturn in Lagna is generally considered an unwelcomefeature of any horoscope. However Saturn in Libra, Sagittariusand Pisces is considered a blessing and the person wouldprosper similar to a king.There is a perception that , of the nine planets , Ketu alone isMoksha karaka . Ketu in the 12 th is considered an indication ofMoksha in this birth itself. According to Maharishi Jamini , Ketuin the 12 th from karakamsa leads to moksha if the said planet isplaced in Aries or Sagittarius (Jamini sutras , Ch 1,sutra 70) .Same is the case if Atmakaraka is located in Pisces (Ibid,ch1,sutra no.13) or if a benefic occupies karakamsa(Ibid ,ch1 ,sutra 69). According to Maharishi Parasara , mere placementof Ketu in 12 th is inadequate; it should come under beneficaspect or conjunction to bestow the above result.Moksha is bestowed under the following conditions:1) Sun in conjunction with Jupiter.2) Weakness of the 7 th house and 7 th lord.3) Weakness of the 10 th house and 10 th lord.4) Strong 5 th house and 5 th lord; Strong 9 th house and 9 th lord.

With due respects to Rishis, it must be said that Ketu aloneis not the determinant of Moksha though most authors andtextbooks take the beaten track. What causes Moksha?Detachment. Which planet causes detachment ? Saturn.Why? Because it is the giver of grief. Grief leads todetachment.You go to a hotel for having your lunch and the food isexcellent. Will you give credit to the waiter or to the cook?Naturally to the cook, who prepared the dishes rather thanthe waiter who merely serves it. You may give a tip to thewaiter but it is the cook who merits your appreciation.Likewise it is Saturn who prepares you for Moksha; Ketu likethe waiter, serves Moksha to you, by being in the 12 th , but it isSaturn, who deserves your appreciation You, think of Moksha,while you are unhappy not when you are happy. . Sai Babawrites in Geeta Vahini that Misery is a real friend and nothappiness.According to Sai Baba “ Misery is a real friend; happiness spendsout the stock of merit and arouses the baser passions. So it isreally an enemy. Really, misery is an eye-opener; it promotesthought and the task of self-improvement. It also endows onewith new and valuable experiences. Happiness draws a veil overexperiences that harden a person and make him tough. So,troubles and travails are to be treated as friends; at least, not as

enemies. Only, it is best to regard both happiness and misery asgifts of God. That is the easiest path for one's ownliberation."(Geeta Vahini,Chapter 4)When you go to a bank to place your valuables , you takethe locker key with you. When you go to open the locker ,the manager in charge of the locker will put his key and onlywhen both the keys are inserted simultaneously , the lockerwill open. Likewise human effort and divine grace are thetwo keys which when operated together open the door tomoksha. Please note that just as the bank’s key is notavailable to you, the key to divine grace is usually invisible.But once you take effort, you have inserted your “key” andthe action of the divine is automatic - you will see the dooropen on its own. You need to do only your portion of thejob.Once I was present when a person was consulting alearned astrologer . The query raised was “Sir, will I gainMoksha in this present birth” The astrologer replied , “There two ways to gain Moksha- attachment to God anddetachment to the world. In your chart , there is nopossibility of your leading a detached life. I would say youwill attain Moksha, through attachment to God.”

In accounting ledgers, they keep one account for everycreditor. If you buy goods, the account will show what is thesum you owe the creditor. If you overpay, the account willshow what the creditor owes you. If the correct account ispaid , the account will show nil balance. One fine day, if youstop dealing with the creditor, the party’s name itself will beremoved from the ledger. If the effects of your good deedsand bad deeds are totally nullified , you become like acreditor with nil balance; if even the intention to do Karma isabsent, the cosmic forces will show you the exit route fromthis world.
