The ideal laundry solution –Calor Gas and Miele dryersThe hotel was using four electrically-powered commercialdryers, which were proving costly – and, says formerDirector Hans Brunner, resulting in a lengthy turnaroundtime. ‘As part of our planned review of laundry services,we took the opportunity to examine our running costsand identified that gas-powered drying equipmentoffered clear benefits,’ he adds.1 21. A well insulated ventilation system minimises noiseand heat lossHans and Michael consulted with Calor’s Area SalesManager Colm Daly and Miele’s Professional SalesDivision to design the right solution. The teamproved to be a powerful partnership between one ofEurope’s most recognised equipment manufacturersand Ireland’s leading provider of cleaner burning LPG.‘From our experience in the hospitality sector, weunderstand that the Europe Hotel and Resort’s guestsexpect nothing but the best – clean laundry is a givenin a five star hotel,’ says Calor’s Colm Daly. ‘We gotstraight to work to specify the optimum solution.’Calor and Miele provide the solutionFrom the brief provided by Hans and Michael, Mieleand Calor worked as an integral part of the projectteam. The agreed specification saw four gas-poweredMiele commercial tumble dryers installed, each witha maximum 40kg capacity. These proved an attractiveoption as gas tumble dryers are typically up to 50 percent cheaper than equivalent electric models to operate. The Miele gas dryers achieve higher temperatures morequickly, and are more fuel efficient. Miele Troctroni<strong>can</strong>d Profitronic M controls provide intelligent controlreducing drying time and producing savings. The dryers’air recycling systems reuse around 60 per cent of heatedexhaust air back into the drying cycle, while Miele’spatented Honeycomb Drum system uses an axial aircurrent, allowing the laundry to float on a cushion ofwarmed air as it dries, producing less creasing.Calor’s experience and expertise delivered thespecification for a clean, reliable and cost effectivefuel supply to power the new system. Two bulkLiquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanks were installed,Two Calor bulk tanks fitted with telemetry system<strong>Business</strong> <strong>can</strong> <strong>count</strong> on

one with a capacity of 1,000kg and the other with acapacity of 600kg. The tanks are linked together ina dedicated fuel compound and fitted with Calor’sautomated telemetry system, which monitors fuellevels and communicates with Calor to ensure accurateand regular LPG delivery – ensuring that the resortmaintains a plentiful supply of fuel.Efficiency and cost savingsThe Europe Hotel and Resort’s laundry room is workingat optimum efficiency and has seen real savings. ‘We’redelighted with the new system,’ says Michael. ‘It has metour requirement, and Calor’s obvious expertise gaveus peace of mind throughout the project.’ Indicativefigures from Calor Gas show huge savings on runningcosts and CO2 emissions <strong>can</strong> be made when switchingfrom commercial electric dryers to gas-powered dryers.Based on a Miele 32-40kg load capacity dryer andcomparing running costs with the equivalent electricdryer, it costs over 50% less to run and reduces CO2emissions by over 50%.
