After 16 years Oxford’s ECI is increasingly recognised as an
innovative and successful environmental enterprise.
Uniquely in the UK it is playing a lead role in the
Government’s three major climate and energy research
initiatives: UK Climate Impacts Programme, the Tyndall
Centre for Climate Change Research, and the UK Energy
Research Centre. ECI’s cross-disciplinary innovation has been
acknowledged in it becoming a founding partner of Oxford’s
£60m James Martin 1st Century School.
The ECI’s research and teaching focus is grouped around three
interlocking themes: Climate, Ecosystems, and Energy. The
research brings together the natural and social sciences, with an
orientation to applied and public policy by considering: ‘How
and why is the global and regional environment changing?
and ‘How can we respond, through public policy, private
enterprise, and social initiatives?’
