<strong>Coaches</strong>- check the NCAA ELIGIBILITYAre you aware of the changes made by the NCAAregarding eligibility for student/athletes?Beginning August 1, <strong>2013</strong>, student/athletes considering aDivision II school for an athletic scholarship, here is what youneed to know regarding your required CORE classes:MUST complete 16 CORE classes:. 3 years of English. 2 years of math (algebra 1 or higher). 2 years of natural o9r physical science (including one year of alab science). 3 extra years of English, math, or natural or physical science. 2 years of social science. 4 years of extra core courses from any of the above or foreignlanguage. Earn a minimum required grade-point average 2.0 or better inyour core courses. Earn a combined SAT score of 820 (critical reading and mathonly) or a combined ACT sum score of 68.What is different? Previously, a student/athlete only had tocomplete 14 CORE classes and now he/she must complete 16CORE Courses.The initial-eligibility standards for NCAA Division I college-boundstudent/athletes are changing. College-bound student/athletesfirst entering a Division 1 college or university on or after August1, 2016, will need to meet new academic rules in order to receiveathletic aid (scholarshi0), practice or compete during their firstyear.Full Qualifier: A college-bound student/athlete may receiveathletic aid (scholarship), practice, and compete in the first year ofenrollment at the Division 1 College or university.Academic Redshirt:A college-bound student/athlete may receive athletic aid(scholarship) in the first year of enrollment and may practice in thefirst regular academic term (semester or quarter) but may NOTcompete in the first year of enrollment. After the first term iscomplete, the college-bound student/athlete must be academicallysuccessful at his/her college or university to continue to practicefor the rest of the year.Nonqualifier: A college-bound student/athlete cannot receiveathletic aid (scholarship), cannot practice and cannot compete inthe first year of enrollment.Here are the new requirements (after August 1, 2016):Full Qualifier must:1. Complete 16 core courses (same as in the past). Ten of the 16 core courses must be completed beforethe seventh semester (senior year) of high school. Seven of the 10 core courses must be in English,math, or science2. Have a minimum core course GPA of 2.300. Grades earned in the 10 required courses requiredbefore the senior year are “locked” in for purposes ofGPA calculation.. A repeat of one of the “locked in” courses will not beused to improve the GPA if taken after the seventhsemester begins.3. Meet the completion sliding scale requirement of GPAand ACT/SAT score (this is a new scale with increasedGPA/test score requirements); and4. Graduate from high school.ACADEMIC REDDSHIRT must:1. Complete 16 core courses (same distribution as inthe past)2. Have minimum core-course GPA of 2.003. Meet the academic redshirt sliding scalerequirement of GPA and ACT/SAT score, and4. Graduate from high school.OFFICIAL TEST SCORES:Test scores must be reported directly to the EligibilityCenter from the ACT or SAT. Test scores will NOT betaken off transcripts or from a student score report.When the student registers for the SAT or ACT, remindhim/her to include the Eligibility Center code of 9999so the test comes directly to the Eligibility Center at noextra charge. Remember…..if a student takes the SATor ACT multiple times, NCAA rules require that allscores must be reported to the Eligibility Center.Eligibility center website is:www.eligibilitycenter.org
