My retirement came after Devon Beitzel's senior year atCentaurus H.S. Devon then went on to a fabulous career at Northern Colorado,which led him to the NCAA Tourney & eventually the Colorado HOF CollegiatePlayer of the Year in 2011. I should mention that my grandson, Kyle, wasour ball boy at Centaurus all 4 years that Devon was in high school. His father,Tim, would come into the locker room at half time of all our games atCentaurus, and give me his take on the game at that point in time. He wouldmake suggestions for the 2nd half. I should also mention that Tim was myassistant coach at Fairview H.S. from 1987-1990.Tim was a Class 6A All State basketball Player for me at Manhattan HighSchool in Kansas in 1981-82. His younger brother, Todd, played on that teamtoo, and would also be named Class 6A All State in basketball the followingseason. Tim went on to play Junior College Basketball at Cloud County inConcordia, KS., and eventually ended up on scholarship at K-State under JackHartman. We moved to Boulder & Fairview H.S. in 1987. At that time ouryoungest son, Tom, was a senior to be at FHS. Tom was an outstanding playerat Fairview in both basketball and baseball. Now afterleading the Erie H.S. team in scoring & rebounding last year as a freshmanon the varsity, this will be our 2nd year with 3 generations of the familyworking together. By the way, the players call me "Grandpa". If I count mysenior year at the University of Nebraska, where I was an assistant coach atUniversity High School on the University Campus, this will be my 43rd yearas a basketball coach. My wife, Ruth, has done stats all those years,including the 1964-65 season at University H.S. in Lincoln.
