John BurkeExecutive DirectorThis is indeed a very exciting time for the Colorado High School Coaches Association, the only organization that represents ALL member coaches in the state of Colorado. As we enter the winter sports season we have crowned the champions from therecently completed fall sports season and those coaches who have achieved thisdifficult goal are to be congratulated and encouraged to give back to the profession byassisting in mentoring our young coaches. As many of you have noticed we have a job openingat the CHSCA. After many years of service to theorganization, our All-State Games Director, SandyBeasley, has turned in her resignation and we arefollowing established Board policy in naming a newperson to the position. Further information may befound on the CHSCA web site colohsca.org. In theinterim, our current President, Ed Eastin, withassistance from Executive Committee member EricMcRae, will handle the fallsports and Randy Earl ofBerthoud High School, ourPresident-elect, will beresponsible for the winter sportscommunication and selectionsto the All-State Games.A recent Boarddecision to stay atAdams StateUniversity hasallowed us to settleon a location for ourlong-running CHSCAAll-State Games forthe next five years. While not half through theschool year we now havesurpassed last year’s totalnumber of football coaches whobelong to the CHSCA. Perhapsthe opportunity to be involvedin a weekly rankings system andchoosing an end-of-the-year All-State team has helped encourage coaches to join andparticipate. One of our finest prep coaches, AndyLowry of Columbine, has been chosen as therecipient of the American Football CoachesAssociation “Power of Influence” award, given oncea year to a high school football coach who has made adifference in students’ lives.A recent Board decision to stay at Adams StateUniversity (no longer College) has allowed us to settleon a location for our long-running CHSCA All-StateGames for the next five years. Adams State has beenmore than accommodating, and our relationship withthem, and the use of their excellent facilities, hasallowed the CHSCA to conduct the Games with theconfidence that our athletes and coaches will have anoutstanding experience and will not break the All-State Games budget. We are in the process of researchingthe number of CHSCA Hall ofFame ceremonies the organizationhas conducted, and it looks verymuch like this year’s banquet will bethe 50 th anniversary of the CHSCAHall of Fame. The 2013 event willbe held on Saturday evening, March30, 2013, with the social periodbeginning at 5:30 PM and dinner at6:30 PM. Congratulations are inorder to Sue Snyder, BrianChristensen, Greg King, MikePallotto, and Scott Yates on theirrecent nomination for induction into the CHSCAHall of Fame. Thanks also to Becky Mudd for all her work andexpertise in running the CHSCA website and onlineregistration.
