PAGE 2 MARCH 2008Celebrating Our Great Adventureby Dr. Ed Carney, Senior Pastor“LET HIM WHO OFTEN TOOTS HIS OWN HORNTAKE HEED LEST HE RUN HIS BATTERY DOWN.”That is a free translation of the verse that says, “Don’tpraise yourself; let others do it!” – Proverbs 27:20It is so hard not to brag because God did it and thereis no other real explanation. The memories, stories, testimonies, family experiences and friends makeRHBC an Adventure to remember. In the past 40 years Riverland Hills has had steady,Dr. Ed Carneysignificant and marvelous growth. RHBC was bornwell. It started a mission 44 years ago and was self-supporting when our peoplemet in their new building. By 1968 it was an independent church influencing ourcommunity, sending missionaries and starting new churches. Our health has come from the continuous infusion of new life. “Most of themembers of Riverland Hills, were not native to Dutch Fork area, but came fromneighboring communities.” New people have kept us from stagnation. New ideas, new energy and new passion have challenged us to grow spiritually and in numbers. Here we are at our 40th Anniversary month and for us it is “just one mile markeramong many” as we breeze on down the road. It has been a wonderful trip thusfar, but we’ve only begun to see what God will do.SOME FUN FACTS:■ The Sportsman’s Restaurant, Columbia, was the place the dream took shapeduring a committee meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. PAGE 4 MARCH 2008celebrate easter at riverland hillsWhat does Easter mean to you?Easter is a celebration of our belief that out of deathcomes new life. It is an invitation to explore more deeplythe relationship between death and life. And it is a gift.We haven’t done anything to earn or deserve this blessing.By the mercy of God, Christ has been raised fromthe dead. And we can be, too.Because of Christ’s resurrection, we know there is hope, victory and assurance for our lives. He arose as thepower to a new life, and by the grace of God, the life ofthe risen Christ is placed into every believer. Each of us experiences sorrow, loneliness and fear.At times, we may feel overcome by our sins. But patientlyand compassionately, God is transforming each of usthrough the experiences of our lives. With this resurrectionHe wants us to become new – to be raised in Christ. Are you sharing a new life with Christ? This EasterSunday make a commitment to take time to thinkabout what Easter means to you.Realize that the power of a new life is yours.Let His resurrection make you new.Preschool Easter Egg HuntSaturday, March 15, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Children in the toddler classes throughKindergarten may come and enjoy amorning of hunting Easter Eggs, makingcrafts and playing games! As weembarked on the season over four months ago, our goal was topromote salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. Andnow, because of the commitment to excellence shown by all ofthe volunteers, we clearly accomplished that goal. Not only didchildren learn how to play the game of basketball or cheer to thebest of their abilities, but they also learned about God’s love forthem each week through devotions and scripture learning. Thanks again to each of the volunteers who made themselvesavailable for God to use this season.
