Dismissal <strong>and</strong> Clean-UpDismissal:Place all h<strong>and</strong>outs <strong>and</strong> personal items back inside each child’s diaper bag.For older children, organize all h<strong>and</strong>outs by the child’s name <strong>and</strong> have them readyfor the parents’ when they arrive.Be prompt <strong>and</strong> cheerful when greeting parents at the door. Ask parents to “Stop<strong>and</strong> Wait” at the door <strong>and</strong> keep doors closed as much as possible.Collect the security tag from the parents. If a parent does not have a security tag,have them speak with the MOPPETS Director. Do not make any exceptions.Remember: NO TAG = NO CHILD!!Never let a child pick up a child. Children must be older than 18 to pick up achild <strong>and</strong> must have the appropriate security card.Be very careful how you speak to parents regarding their child. Speak gently <strong>and</strong>with underst<strong>and</strong>ing if there has been a problem with their child that you thinkthey need to know about.Clean-Up:All toys that need to be disinfected should be placed in the white, mesh baglocated in your room.Return all toys to the supply closets <strong>and</strong> cabinets.Sheets, smocks, bibs, blankets, etc. should be placed in the dirty clothes hamper.There is one in the Bed Baby room.Put any trash in the trashcans.Place all cookies back inside their containers <strong>and</strong> seal tightly.Leave all countertops clean <strong>and</strong> clear.Straighten up all classrooms <strong>and</strong> leave them in neat order.6


Health InformationAllergy, Medical <strong>and</strong> Security Needs:All members <strong>and</strong> visitors are requested to provide allergy <strong>and</strong> medicalinformation to the Moppet staff.At the beginning of each session, staff should familiarize themselves with medicalinformation on all children in their room. This information is found on theregistration forms contained in the black MOPPETS binder in each room.Please follow the instructions on the red allergy/medical cards.If further assistance is needed, please contact the MOPPETS Director.Sickness:Children with the following symptoms in the past twenty-four hours shouldnot be brought into the Moppets Classroom:Vomiting/DiarrheaGreen/Cloudy MucusInflamed throat or mouthFeverRunny or infected eyesCroup, coughing, sneezingAny symptoms of childhood diseases (chicken pox, measles, mumps, etc.)Any skin infections (boils, impetigo, unexplained rash, etc.)Head lice or scabiesIf you have any questions or concerns, please contact the MOPPETS Director.Neither teachers nor volunteers are allowed to dispense medications. Parentsmust dispense all medications.Basic first aid bags are located in the cabinets in each room. The bags say “GodRocks” on them.If you feel a child needs to be removed from class, contact the MOPPETSDirector.7


Discipline <strong>and</strong> AccidentsDiscipline:1. The best way to h<strong>and</strong>le discipline issues during the preschool years is to redirecttheir attention.2. Use the “time out” method to discipline a disruptive or difficult child. Oneminute per age is a good estimate. Even the youngest of children can relate to thismethod <strong>and</strong> can be placed in a time-out chair, crib, or high chair.3. Us a firm voice if necessary, but do not yell.4. Be cautious of your adult strength <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>le preschoolers gently. Fingernails, afirm hold, or a strong grip can potentially leave marks on a child.5. NEVER STRIKE, SHAKE OR SLAP A CHILD!!! This includes your own child ifthey are in your care during your time of service.6. NEVER USE ANY FORM OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT!7. If a child continues to be disruptive, please contact the MOPPETS Director.Accidents:1. Remember to wear rubber gloves when dealing with any kind of bodily fluid.2. First Aid Kits are located in the baby room.3. If an accident should occur of any type, contact the MOPPETS Directorimmediately.4. Fill out an accident form explaining to the parents exactly what happened <strong>and</strong>how you treated the child.8
