The protesterscondemned the university for co-operatingwith "the war machine" and triedto "provide adequate, objective informationconcerning napalm and its effectson human beings." MendelCooper, a <strong>DU</strong> junior, protested thedraft by burning his draft card during aprotest march in front of the DenverFederal Center.In the words of Chancellor Mitchell"The silent generation is no longe~silent." <strong>DU</strong> students, graduate law studentsand professors alike protested the'war in Viet Nam before a Veteran'sDay parade in downtown Denver. Theprotesters were protected by the policeuntil the end of the parade when a mobof followers moved in. Most of the protestersfaded significantly into thecrowd, but several were beaten by themob before police could beat them off.274275
