totalling the sum of NGN 2.840.000.-
1. Summary report:
Background to the Guardian Angels Motherless Babies Home (GAMB),
Emerne, Enugu Dioceese is the year 2000 (Jubilee year Project) when the
suppport of the parish of Mainhausen Wendelhausen under Rev deacon Edmund
Eze handed over the Home to the diocse of Enugu. The project has grown to
become the second largest orphanage in the city, with a large turn out of
children who arew helped to survive a harsh world after birth following death of
the moother or rejection and abandonment by the parents and society. The Home
has saved over 200 children since inception and given credibilty to the work of
Church to saave life, protect life, support women, respect children in need and
care for them.
As at today, the 30 th of June, 2011, the statistics show a total number of children
is thirty, having discharged three at he end of March. One died of incurable
genetic sicknes in the hospital and another abandoned child was found in the
streams of the village and brought by good people to the Home. The males are
more than the females numbering 18 to 13.
The sisters who run the Home are as shown in the pictures, sisters of the
Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy, a local Nigerian Congregation which
has experience in the apostolate of managing orphans. Sr Lucy is the sister in
charge of tehr GAMB Home and she is both competent, responsible and well
disposed to assist the children. She is assisted aby some five other sisters and
these can be seen from the enclosed pictures. The centrer, alongside other
diocesan projects, is co-ordinated by my office which is in charge of all
diocesan projects.
It is our great pleasure to thank the PMK and the parish of Mainhausen
Wendelhausen under the Reverend Dr. Deacon Edmund Eze for
continuously giving support and raising awareness of this project before their
parish community. Their funds are well managed by the PMK in Aachen which
even adds some percentage grants on top of the contributions before sending the
money to us in Nigeria. We are indeed very grateful.
This initiative has made us also in Nigeria raise awareness in the local
community of the Home and since a while now, the parish community at our
lady of Louredes Emene does upport the home on a local basis. This is done
through foodstuff supplies; funds; visitations of the legion of Mary members and
other charitable groups to the Homes to stay with the children for some time;
prayer sessiosnfor the children and other forms of solidarity. We are grateful for
all these forms of assistance.
There are problems of course in the Home some of which include the lack of
adequate accommodation since the children live in the same environment, sleep
there, eat there and visitors also visit them in the same hall. There are no
gardens and no space for the children to play. This sistuation made us to appeal
to the PMK for asistance to expand the building according to limited space and
at a very conservative cost. Unfortunately, PMK turned down the application
recently due to lack of funds for our project.
Secondly, there is no regular supply of electrictity to the area by the local
NEPA. The Home needs a good generator. In the past years, we purchasesd a
sound new but small generator but this has served for almost a decade and is old
and tired. It is now too small for the many neeeds of the Home. If we could
purchase a new generator of the quality of Diesel engine of about 25 kwa,
costing NGN 2,4 million Naira, this shall go a long way to solve the present
problems in the Home for generator. In the dark, children are afraid; foodstuff
without electricty get spoit; health hazards are many; etc etc. May we ask for
your kind support for a generator the Home?
Furthermore, the Home lacked a good, nagel neu and functional vehicle for a
long time now. The difficulties were enormous but we mustered courage and
raised the sum of NGN 3.2 million which is already paid for. There is still an
outstanding debt on the car for the sum of NGN 800.000 but we shall pay when
able. We are glad to announce to our friends that we have purchased a Bus
which you can see enclosed in the pictures for services to the children and the
home. We are very happy that now there is a car for the Home for all forms of
much needed transportation.
On our part, we shall continue to remain grateful to you and all your
assistants for all the support and urge you not to get tired of funding our project.
Orphans, motherless babies, abanodned street children ned all the love they can
get from the apostolate of the Church and the Christian community. We stand to
offfer these services. Please help us to continue to give this support. Thank
you.
2. Actual pictures of Children in the Home
Enclosure are recent pictures of the Home with the children, our Bus and the
sisters who take care of the children.
3. Summary report by the Sister in charge of the internal activity and
financials for the quarter
This report is very useful as it gives overall insight and statistics of the needs,
problems, progress and overall financials of the Home. The document speaks
for itself and we present it to you. Many of the problems reiaed by the sisters
report are being handled by us within Nigeria such as the problem of pollution
and industrial hazard; lack of finances and health issues. We are doing our best
and God is alive to bless and protect our children. We trust in the benevolence of
almighty God.
4. PMK Grants transmitted to GAMB for the sum of Euros 5100 and Euros
9100:
We have enclosed the acknowelgment forms sent to us by your office indicating
how much we have received in exchange from the grants you have sent to us.
The total amount received from the PMK is NGN 2.860.000.- only. We are
indeed grateful. We spent until the period 31 st March 2011 the sum of NGN 4.
697.755.- for various purchases including food stuff, vehicle (part is already
paid for), health costs; drus; toilettories; car repairs; stationary, water; electricals
and appliances; Repairs on building; schools fees for the nursery class children
amongst the orphans. Until June this year, the period under review, we have
already spent an additional sum of NGN 1,5 million added to the above.
It is enormous to run a Home on charity and to plan long term but live on
providence. So far, God has been very kind and the support from Mainhausen
and our local parish community anad the local Church hasa kept the children
alive and happy. We ned this assistnace to continue.
We live on charity. Your assistance helps the Home to survive. Please continue
to give support to this home. Your money is well managed and the children are
generally happy as you can see from their pictures enclosed.
Wishing you all the best of God’s blessings,
