Yng Ngwersyll <strong>yr</strong> <strong>Urdd</strong> <strong>Llangrannog</strong>, ein nod ywcreu amgylchedd ddiogel a hapus i bob plentyna pherson ifanc sy’n mynychu’r Ganolfan.Ein gobaith yw paratoi profiadau perthnasola chofiadwy i’r bobl ifanc er mwyn iddyntfwynhau’r presennol ac, ar <strong>yr</strong> un pryd,ddatblygu’n unigolion annibynnol a chytbwys acyn ddinasyddion caredig a chyfrifol. Ymdrecha’r<strong>Gwersyll</strong> i ddatblygu y ddarpariaeth addysgol,gan weithio ac ymgynghori gydag ymwelw<strong>yr</strong>,ysgolion, y gymuned, <strong>yr</strong> <strong>Urdd</strong> a staff y <strong>Gwersyll</strong>.At the Centre, our aim is to create a safe andhappy environment for every child and youngperson that attends the Centre.We hope to give young people relevant andmemorable experiences so that they enjoy thepresent and, at the same time, develop to beindependent and balanced individuals, as wellas kind and responsible citizens. The Centremakes every effort to continually develop itseducational provision, working and consultingwith visitors, schools, the community, the <strong>Urdd</strong>and the Centre’s staff.7

Yng Ngwersyll <strong>Llangrannog</strong> caiff hyneffaith gadarnhaol ar ddatblygiad personola chymdeithasol plant, eu hymddygiad a’ulles cyffredinol. Mae plant a phobl ifanc yndyfalbarhau â gweithgareddau am gyfnodauhwy yn <strong>yr</strong> aw<strong>yr</strong> agored a byddant yn fwyparod i roi cynnig ar bethau newydd. Maentyn dysgu gweithio ar y cyd a rhoi eu medraumeddwl ar waith gyda phroblemau go iawn,megis sialensiau tîm neu gwblhau cwrs rhaffauuchel. At the Centre, this hasa positive effect on children’s personal andsocial development, their behaviour andgeneral well-being. Children and young peoplepersevere longer with activities outdoors andare more prepared to try new things. They learnto co-operate and apply their thinking skillsto real problems, such as team challenges orcompleting a high rope course. During a stayat <strong>Gwersyll</strong> <strong>yr</strong> <strong>Urdd</strong> <strong>Llangrannog</strong>, enjoymentlevels are high and children and young peopletake pleasure in the things that they do,ensuring rich educational outcomes ofa high standard that develop pupils’personal and social skills is central to theactivities and experiences of individuals.The Centre provides and extends a variety ofskills that cannot be introduced in a schoolenvironment. Through these skills we aimto promote individual well-being, a positiveattitude and self-confidence, which will helpthe children to become responsible citizens,confident individuals and effective learners.8


Datblygu plant a phobl ifanc sydd yn ...Developing children and young people who are...Ddinasyddion CyfrifolMae datblygu sgiliau cymdeithasol arhyngbersonol, cynnig cefnogaeth i eraill amanteisio ar gefnogaeth cyd- fyf<strong>yr</strong>w<strong>yr</strong> a staffy <strong>Gwersyll</strong> yn ganolog i brofiadau’r unigolynyn y <strong>Gwersyll</strong>. Problem solving is centralto many of the activities, and with guidance fromqualified instructors the pupils will be challengedand encouraged to develop their problem solvingskills, which will help them when they return totheir schools.Contributing to success at schoolParents and schools will want to be assuredthat pupils who attend a residential course at<strong>Gwersyll</strong> <strong>yr</strong> <strong>Urdd</strong> <strong>Llangrannog</strong> will benefit from theexperiences on offer during their stay. With this inmind, the Centre is committed to helping pupilsgain confidence and self-esteem; we consider thisto be essential in terms of enabling pupils to fulfiltheir personal educational potential.12

The ability tolisten, understand, talk and interact with othersis an essential aspect of a child’s developmentwhich will affect different areas of theirdevelopment, including social and emotionaldevelopment and behavioural well-being.These skills are essential to enable a child totake full advantage of their education. Manyactivities require individuals to listen carefullyand contribute orally. We encourage everyoneto contribute and offer sensitive support to thoseindividuals who lack confidence.13

The activities allow individuals to gain adeeper understanding of a number of differentareas, to be more critical of evidence, to thinkflexibly and to form opinions and make logicaldecisions instead of jumping to conclusions.These thinking skills are needed at schooland in the wider world. Throughout their stay,individuals are encouraged to develop a rangeof thinking strategies to use when they facenew situations.We will also teach individuals to:• work sensitively with each other;• understand their strengths and limitations,and to appreciate these in others;• take and share responsibility;• be leaders, strategists and team-workers;• make informed decisions;• develop a commitment to healthy living;• respect the environment;• pay appropriate attention to safety; and• improve their key skills, especially:• communication;• problem solving; and• taking responsibility for and improvingtheir own learning.15

Theuse of the Welsh language by residents andevery member of staff within this organisation iscentral to the ethos and high status given to theWelsh language at the Centre.Health and SafetyIn accordance with the Centre’s Health andSafety Policy, the children will discuss the safetyimplications that are relevant to themselves andothers when they take part in activities.17

There isevidence from many sources that taking part inadventurous activities, even occasionally,will improve pupils’ contribution, especiallywhen these activities are undertaken ina residential setting.Outdoor education continues to be an activityfor a minority of pupils in terms of the physicaleducation curriculum in the majority ofschools. Today, fewer schools offer residentialexperiences away from the school site due toincreasing concerns about litigation. However,the Centre offers a safe environment and anopportunity to take part in challenging andstimulating activities, under the guidance ofqualified instructors.26

Dengys ymchwil bod dros 25% oblant a phobl ifanc sy’n cael eu cyflwyno iweithgaredd newydd yn y <strong>Gwersyll</strong> yn parhauâ’r weithgaredd honno.Transition and TransferMany schools will take advantage of theactivities offered at the Centre to prepareindividuals for periods of transition and transfer.These periods in the lives of children andyoung people can present real challenges.The experiences offered as part of the Centre’sprovision and activities prepare individualssocially and emotionally for periods of changeand uncertainty.New OpportunitiesOur courses introduce individuals to a variety ofdifferent activities and sports, often for the firsttime. This offers an opportunity for pupils whohave not succeeded or excelled at sports inthe past, to experiment with different interestsand to follow new paths. Research shows thatover 25% of children and young people whoare introduced to a new activity at the Centrecontinue with that activity.27

We respectthe fact that teachers often sacrifice their owntime to accompany pupils to the Centre, and wemake every effort to ensure that their time hereis as enjoyable as possible.Our courses offer teachers the opportunityto see how children cope with situations thatare different to the school environment. It isan opportunity for staff to really get to knowindividuals and to consider different attitudesand strategies for meeting the needs of theirpupils.
