Five new ScaniaR470 tractors and two Scania R380tractors were handed over in all.Joos Oberholzer owns Obie Transport,based in Upington and operating fromNamibia, took delivery of the two R3806x4 trucks. Although Joos’s background isfarming, his 14-year-old transport businessspecialises in moving perishable foodstuffslike sheep and beef carcasses on contractfrom Namibia to Cape Town, Johannesburgand Durban. On the return legs his truckscarry various types of dry cargo for clientsin Namibia.“I bought my first Scania 143 in 1994 andmy second one a year later,” says Joos. “NowI have 21 Scania trucks.” Obie Transportalso owns 18 cooler trailers which are usedto keep cargo at the correct temperaturesduring long hours on the road. Each Scaniatractor hauls a cooler trailer loaded with upto 24 tons of chilled beef and mutton at 0°Cor frozen fish at -25°C, destined for seafoodwholesalers and restaurants in SouthAfrica. Joos’s Scanias also truck chilledsnoek to the cargo terminal at OR Tambointernational airport for export to Portugalby cargo jet.Joos has good reason to trust his Scaniafleet’s reliability and economy.
