Scania AreaTraining Manager Christopher Crookesbelieves that the donation will go a longway in allowing the students to improvetheir technical skills before moving into anSeveral crates of clothing and overalls were handed over to the iThemba Institute.School principal Uzendt Peters and thestudents thanked Scania Southern Africafor their generous donation.operational working environment.“We decided that by investing in the school we<strong>co</strong>uld ensure that all the students have the right toolsand opportunities by receiving expert training toenable them to be<strong>co</strong>me a qualified electrician, fitterand turner or diesel technician,” added Crookes.The iThemba Institute of Technology in Sowetois responsible for educating 200 students fromgrade 10 onwards in the field of technical studiesrelated to heavy <strong>co</strong>mmercial industry. Ac<strong>co</strong>rdingto school principal Uzendt Peters, the donationfrom Scania will go a long way in ensuring thestudents’ lives are made easier while undergoingthe specialised training. “We really appreciate theclothing and the donation of the engine by Scania,as it will allow the students to learn a lot by havingthe chance to dismantle the engine and thenrebuild it,” added Peters.Massive wooden crates of <strong>co</strong>rporate clothing,including lounge-shirts, overalls, bags andworkshop apparel, were opened by Scania MDChristoffer Ljungner, who handed out the itemsto the members of the school governing bodyand associates.www.<strong>scania</strong>.<strong>co</strong>m N o 3/2009 • SCANIA REVOLUTIONS 13
