Police Activities LeagueyoUtH RESoURCE CENtEROxnard PAL is located at the former Oxnard High Schoolcampus now known as Campus Park, 350 S. K Street, Oxnard(between Fifth Street & Second Street). The PAL Youth ResourceCenter has opened new avenues for PAL and rather than facingits many challenges alone, PAL has joined forces with manypublic service organizations to create a one-stop youth-servingcenter at Campus Park. Organizations such as YAC Foundation,El Centrito de la Colonia, Bengals Wrestling, and VenturaCounty Food Share are among the many PAL partners deliveringservices at Campus Park.Homework HelpersMonday through Friday, 3-7pmThe Oxnard PAL program’s mission is to provide a safeplace for Oxnard’s youth to find assistance to complete theirhomework and projects.MentoringMentoring is a time-proven strategy that can help youngpeople from all circumstances achieve their potential.Mentors are caring individuals who, along with parents andguardians, provide young people with support, counsel,friendship, reinforcement and a constructive example.The Oxnard PAL Youth Mentoring Program is available toall youth ages 9 to 18. Mentees are matched with mentorsaccording to their interests, hobbies and other personaldescriptors. Mentoring groups range from 1:1 to 1:10. Boysand girls meet separately. A commitment of 12 months isrequired by all program participants.VoLUNtEERSVolunteers from the community are always welcome. OxnardPAL uses not only law enforcement officers, but also parentsand community volunteers in its efforts to make a personalcommitment of time and energy to our youth. Volunteers canassist with coaching, officiating, chaperoning or supervisingactivities, special events, tutoring, and more. To ensure the safetyof our youth, all volunteers undergo fingerprinting and screeningby the Oxnard Police Department, FBI, and Department ofJustice (DOJ).Program Components:Discussions & Goal-SettingMentors will engage youth in meaningful and positivediscussion while encouraging goal-setting and helpingyouth to acheive their goals through measurableobjectives, advocacy and weekly follow through.Group Activities & GamesMentees will participate in a variety of smalland large group activities ranging from generalrecreation activities to educational workshops and/orpresentations.www.oxnardpal.orgoxnardrec.org • (805) 385-7995 39
