roll out important initiatives
to spread the safety message
this month.
GAME FOR SAFETY
Safety is a serious business
but learning about it can be
fun too.
Keppel Integrated
Engineering (KIE) recently
held its second Environment,
Health and Safety (EHS)
convention to raise
awareness and employee
commitment as well as
celebrate important
milestone achievements in
the past year.
Winners of the KIE ‘5 Safety
Principles’ poster design
competition were given
recognition at the event
while participants played
games and quizzes to
enhance their safety
knowledge.
Held on 7 November 2008,
representatives from other
companies within the
Keppel Group were also
invited to present on
their organisations’ safety
programmes, to encourage
dynamic interaction and
invigoration of new ideas.
The activities throughout the
day and the sharing of safety
best practices across different

industries provided a wellrounded
learning session for
all.

DRILLING IN SAFETY
MINDSET
Over at Keppel Batangas,
safety initiatives continue to
be introduced to reinforce
a strong safety culture
amongst employees. This
effort to keep the yard an
incident-free workplace, is
ever more pertinent as
Keppel Batangas ramps up
its production pace for more
projects from sister company
Keppel FELS.
The yard’s safety efforts have
paid off, when it achieved
one million manhours
without loss time incidents
(LTI) for Floatel International’s
(Floatel) semisubmersible
accommodation rig. At a
ceremony on 23 October
2008, Floatel presented
Keppel Batangas US$10,000
for accomplishing this safety
milestone.
“It is a common
misconception that safety
costs money. Actually, the lack
of safety can be costlier. One
million manhours without LTI
is a true achievement that you
should be very proud of,” said
Mr Jens Rasmussen, Site
Manager of Floatel.

recognising this safety
milestone achieved by the
yard.”
Keppel Batangas had earlier
launched a safety incentives
programs together with
ENSCO International in
October as part of its safety
programme. A fire
evacuation drill was also
conducted last 18 October to
increase the yard’s readiness
in responding to unplanned
emergencies. Yard and
subcontractor employees
participated in the drill which
saw the orderly evacuation as
well as a simulated rescue of
‘injured’ personnel. keppelite
