Almost a homecoming<br />

It felt like a homecoming for<br />

39 <strong>Keppel</strong>ites even though it<br />

was probably <strong>the</strong> first time<br />

many of <strong>the</strong>m stepped foot<br />

on Singapore.<br />

Hailing from various overseas<br />

business units, <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

participants of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keppel</strong><br />

Group Human Resources’<br />

third annual Global Young<br />

Leaders Programme.<br />

Held from 2 to 11 October<br />

2008, <strong>the</strong> programme is part<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Group’s Talent<br />

Management initiative which<br />

aims to hone <strong>the</strong> leadership,<br />

strategic thinking and<br />

management skills of<br />

<strong>Keppel</strong>ites.<br />

<strong>Keppel</strong>ite I November 2008<br />

The group orientation gave<br />

<strong>the</strong> participants an<br />

opportunity to interact and<br />

network with each o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

though team building<br />

activities.<br />

In project groups, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

worked on assignments<br />

which were presented to<br />

senior management at <strong>the</strong><br />

end of <strong>the</strong> programme. The<br />

topics included ‘finance for<br />

non-finance managers’,<br />

‘building effective teams and<br />

‘creative thinking’.<br />

The activities also aimed at<br />

increasing knowledge about<br />

<strong>the</strong> Group’s businesses<br />

and competencies, while<br />

providing an avenue for<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to build camaraderie<br />

with <strong>the</strong>ir overseas<br />

counterparts and colleagues.<br />

Su Rongrong from <strong>Keppel</strong>’s<br />

Beijing Representative Off<strong>ice</strong><br />

said, “I appreciate <strong>the</strong><br />

opportunity to get to know<br />

<strong>Keppel</strong>ites from all over <strong>the</strong><br />

world as it gives me a<br />

sense of belonging to a really<br />

big family. Personally, I<br />

have benefited from<br />

<strong>the</strong> programme by having<br />

gained a wider perspective<br />

and a global mindset.<br />

approaches while doing our<br />

projects toge<strong>the</strong>r.”<br />

As part of <strong>the</strong>ir introduction<br />

to Singapore, <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

brought onboard <strong>the</strong><br />

Singapore Flyer, <strong>the</strong> world’s<br />

largest observation wheel,<br />

where <strong>the</strong>y had <strong>the</strong> chance<br />

to take a panoramic view of<br />

Singapore’s breathtaking<br />

urban landscape. keppelite
