He was a consultant of the United NationsHigh Commissioner for Refugees and alsoestablished the Voluntary Architects’ Network in 1995.Renowned for his works of innovative ideas andstructures, he currently bases his practice in Tokyo,New York and Paris.He contributes much energy to disaster reliefprojects and has taught at major universities in Japanand the USA. He has served on the Pritzker Prize juryand has received numerous international awards forarchitecture, design, and humanitarian contributions.24
