RULES & REGULATIONS1. General Regulations1a. All cars must be designed using a CAD/CAMpackage. The CAD package used mustsatisfy all the challenge entry criteria andallow students to produce a 3D graphicrendering and 1 st or 3 rd angle orthographicprojection. Your F1 car must be manufacturedon a CNC machine, such as a DenfordMicroRouter, either at your school or at an F1in Schools approved Manufacturing Centre.1b. All teams must be registered before 16thOctober 2009 in preparation for QualifyingStage submission of plans on 6th November2009. Registration is online atwww.F1inSchools.ie1c. Students to submit a 5 page summaryportfolio document by 6th November 2009.1d. Each team should consist of a minimum of 3members to a maximum of 6. Mixed genderteams would be preferred and positivelyencouraged.1e. Contact details for the Team Manager shouldbe provided, to enable F1 in Schools to liaisewith them, this is completed at time ofregistration on www.F1inSchools.ie. All teammembers’ roles must be entered onlinebefore Regional finals.1f. All cars must be designed considering thespecified dimensions and regulations. Only alimited amount of hand finishing (at theJudges’ discretion) is permitted. We expect allcars to be complete, finished and painted to ahigh standard.1g. Only a limited amount of filler is permitted. Itshould not be used to build up areas.Disqualification may occur wheremeasurement of original drawing and final carhave significant discrepancies.1h. Teams must show evidence of any mediafootage or press clippings in order to beawarded marks for such media coveragegenerated.1i. The official length of the track, from startingline to finish line, is 20 metres.1j. The F1 car body must be machined from asingle piece of balsa wood. The front aerofoiland the rear aerofoil may be machined from aseparate non-metallic material. The design ofthe axle and bearing systems is unrestricted.1k. Teams that have been invited to the RegionalFinals and National final will be required toexplain how they completed their designprocess to the Judges, in the form of a verbalpresentation, with optional accompanyingvisual aids. The presentation must not lastlonger than 5 minutes. Extra time is providedfor set up and Judges questions.1l. Should any teams withdraw or becomedisqualified from the Regional Final stage;reserve teams may be selected from apreviously submitted list. These teams will beinformed by post/e-mail/telephone call as soonas the organisers are aware of the situation.1m.The cars should be produced in the sameyear as the finals. The same car design shouldnot be entered more than once.1n. Each design must leave enough space for anentry number sticker to be applied on eachside of the car body. Your number will begiven to you at registration and must be inplace before racing. The size of the sticker willbe a maximum of 40mm (length) by 25mm(height).1o. At Regional and National Final stage eachteam must produce a design folder of workcovering all aspects of the project includinginitial ideas, design development and evidenceof testing. These documents should bepresented in an A3 sized portfolio anddisplayed in the pits area throughout theduration of the event - no more than 20 sheetsof A3 per portfolio.1p. A dimensioned orthographic projection(including a plan, side and end elevation) oftheir car design and a 3D rendering, bothcompleted using a CAD package, must alsobe submitted in your design folder.F1 in Schools Technology Challenge 11
