"Praktische Informatik 1" is the Laboratory for<br />

Dependable Distributed Systems at the<br />

Department for Computer Science of the<br />

University of Mannheim, <strong>Germany</strong>.<br />

The Institute for Mobile and Distributed Systems<br />

(Prof. Dr. Claudia Linnhoff-Popien) provides<br />

teaching and research in: Location-based services<br />

(location-based services), Ubiquitous Computing ,<br />

Mobile Platforms and Applications, Contextsensitive<br />

services, Mobile multimedia services,<br />

Car-to-Car Communication.<br />

The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information<br />

Technology SIT develops tailored, directly<br />

applicable solutions for all branches, including<br />

health, transport, traffic and production, as well<br />

as for commerce and financial services. In<br />

addition to client-oriented contract research, SIT<br />

offers consultation on the development of security<br />

concepts, and conducts studies for both the<br />

private sector and government.<br />

Chair for IT-security Management of the<br />

University of Regensburg conducts research into<br />

testlab IT security; secure business processes;<br />

secure communications infrastructures; network<br />

and Internet security; mobile security and<br />

distributed systems; data protection, privacy and<br />

multilateral security; identity management and<br />

public key infrastructures (PKI); and digital rights<br />

management (DRM).<br />

The first independent Faculty of Safety<br />

Engineering in <strong>Germany</strong> was founded at the<br />

Bergische Universität Wuppertal (Wuppertal<br />

University) in 1975. Today, every year about 500<br />

students are trained in order to attain Bachelors<br />

of Science Safety Engineering as well as Masters<br />

of Science Safety Engineering,M.Sc. Fire Safety<br />

Engineering andM.Sc. Quality Management.<br />

Outstanding engineers and scholars in general<br />

can receive a Doctors degree as Dr.-Ing. (doctor<br />
