Analysis andinventory of FP7 marine-related ed proposalsposaBasic statistical information – What did we find out?• Submitted proposalsThe analysis of 109 calls for proposals over2007-2008 12 reveals that about 5% (1996proposals) of all proposals submitted (41552),can be identifi ed as marine-related proposalsor relevant to this analysis because theybear potential applications in the maritimesector. The approach of this analysis is verybroad since one of the objectives is to raisethe awareness of all interested parties on thevariety of activities relevant to the oceans andseas either from an environmental or an economicperspective.• Proposals selected for fundingAn estimated amount of 733 million € hasbeen dedicated to fund 345 marine-relatedproposals. It accounts for about 6.5% of thefi nancial contribution awarded by the EuropeanUnion to all proposals selected withinFP7 in 2007-2008 and 5.6% in terms of thenumber of proposals.It should be borne in mind that the purpose of the statistical data presented here is to give athorough overview of marine related projects within FP7, including projects which are indirectlylinked to the marine environment or bear potential applications for the maritime economy. TheEU contribution amount mentioned for proposals selected for funding is based on the sum ofthe EU contribution of individual proposals. In other words, even though only part of the EUcontribution may directly relate to marine activities, the whole EU contribution of the proposalhas always been taken into account. Therefore fi nancial information provided in this analysisdoes not refl ect the exact marine-related content of the project.
