Directors’ <strong>Report</strong>: Business ReviewCorporate responsibility continuedPerformance in 2010 and objectives for 2011Business conduct2010 objectivesAll Line Leaders and Functional Directorsare required to submit to the ChiefExecutive the level of implementationof core policies in their areas ofresponsibility through the twice yearlyOperational Assurance Statement(OAS). In cases where a policy is judgednot to be fully implemented a plan isrequired setting out the milestones tofull compliance. The objective agreedfor 2010 is that by December all of themilestones have been met and any futuremilestones are on track to be met.ProgressLine Leaders and Functional Directorsconfirmed progress following therevisions made to the core policiesresulting from the Woolf implementationprogramme, through their six-monthlyOAS.2011 objectivesImplementation of the Group’sprogramme to address the Woolfrecommendations to be completeby May 2011 and confirmed throughexternal assurance at the end of 2011.Safety2010 objectivesContinue the progress towards a worldclass level of safety performance:– All businesses and BAE Systems’controlled sites with more than 150personnel to attain Level 4 of theSafety Maturity Matrix (SMM), andthose at Level 4 to show progresstowards achieving Level 5 by the endof 2011.– Deliver at least a 20% improvementin the Lost Work Day Case Ratecompared with 2009.Progress– Sites with more than 150 personnel(other than those acquired during2010) have now progressed to Level 4on the SMM.– An overall 31% improvement in the LostWork Day Case Rate was achieved,exceeding our target of 20%.2011 objectivesContinue to progress towards a worldclass level of safety performance:– Demonstrate continued progresstowards SMM Level 5. SMMclarification:a. Level 5 achievement: All sites atLevel 4 in 2009 to achieve Level 5 bythe end of 2011;b. Level 5 progress: All sites at Level 4at the end of 2010 to demonstrateprogress to achieve Level 5 by the endof 2012;c. Level 4 achievement: All remainingsites to achieve Level 4 by the endof 2012.– Continue to demonstrate year-on-yearimprovement in the Lost Work DayCase Rate.Diversity and inclusion2010 objectivesDevelop a global working climate whichembraces diversity and inclusion:– Create a plan to deploy the Diversity &Inclusion Maturity Matrix (D&IMM) bythe end of the first quarter and meet the2010 milestones towards desired endstate to be achieved by the end of 2015.Progress– Each business deployed the matrix bythe end of the first quarter. Businessunits have developed plans andmilestones against the D&IMMreflecting their individual startingpoints and cultural context.2011 objectivesContinue to utilise the global D&IMMto achieve an improved level ofperformance for 2011.46 www.baesystems.com
