<strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Methods</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Pearl</strong> <strong>Farming</strong>that new cycles <strong>of</strong> grafting and harvesting can take place regularly. After young pearl oysters havereached about 2 years <strong>of</strong> age, they are ready for grafting, which starts the development <strong>of</strong> a culturedpearl. After an inspection 40 days after grafting to evaluate the results, the pearl oysters are kept on thefarm for a further 12-24 months. <strong>The</strong> pearls are then harvested, and the pearl oysters that produce goodquality pearls are grafted a second time (Figure 6).Page 14
