Volunteerswould assist with inputting important demographics and medicalinformation into a data collection program. This program will allow<strong>the</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> to better serve our patients by helping us identify gaps inservices and tailor our programs specifically to meet <strong>the</strong> needs of ourpatients. In addition, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> will be able to create detailed reportsthat will demonstrate our transparency to donors.This program started in August of 2013 and is expected to becompleted in early 2014. Well, <strong>the</strong> fall at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clearwater</strong><strong>Free</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> is also a time where we reflect back and are most thankful for <strong>the</strong> volunteers that give <strong>the</strong>ir most valuable asset to <strong>the</strong>clinic-namely <strong>the</strong>ir time.Over <strong>the</strong> past 35 years, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clearwater</strong> <strong>Free</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> has built its reputation on providing quality and compassionate care to our patients.Without <strong>the</strong> tireless contributions of both community and professional volunteers <strong>the</strong> ability to serve our patients would be impossible.“Thank-you” never seems to be enough for expressing our gratitude to our most valuable resource. Those who struggle tomeet <strong>the</strong> demands of overhead, will oftenpay <strong>the</strong>mselves last…if at all, placing healthinsurance at <strong>the</strong> very bottom of <strong>the</strong> needs list.This was <strong>the</strong> case with Nancy, <strong>the</strong> owner of asmall local restaurant who has worked manylong, hard days to build her business. Theextra funds to buy insurance were just notavailable and Nancy needed medical treatment.Nancy suffers from two serious chronic healthissues, Atrial Fibrillation, and COPD (ChronicObstructive Pulmonary Disease), both requiringsurveillance from medical specialists and dailymedications. Although Nancy struggles withkeeping her doors open and operating hersmall restaurant, she believes in giving backto <strong>the</strong> community. When she was askedto donate her famous bread pudding to <strong>the</strong><strong>Clearwater</strong> <strong>Free</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>’s major fundraiser, Martinis & Matisse, shedid not hesitate to say “yes”. It was <strong>the</strong>re, at Martinis & Matisse thatNancy first learned about <strong>the</strong> services providedby <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clearwater</strong> <strong>Free</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> and how <strong>the</strong><strong>Clinic</strong> could help people like her. “The <strong>Clinic</strong>does tremendous things,” Nancy said. “I havereceived better health care at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clearwater</strong><strong>Free</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> than 20 years with health insurance.The quality of care is excellent and <strong>the</strong>y followup to make sure I am doing okay. I am justthankful <strong>the</strong>y are here so that people like mecan get <strong>the</strong> help that <strong>the</strong>y need.”Many o<strong>the</strong>r patients, like Nancy, cannotafford health insurance but don’t qualify forgovernment assistance. This is why <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>’smission is so critical to <strong>the</strong> community. “The<strong>Clinic</strong> does tremendous things. Without <strong>the</strong><strong>Clinic</strong>, people could become critically ill andend up in <strong>the</strong> emergency room or worse,”says Nancy.
