Learn moreWhat is <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Government</strong>?Learn first-h<strong>and</strong> how our state government works—notby watching, but by doing!Each September for six months, more than 2,500 highschool students throughout California come together in<strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Government</strong>, a program that developsteens, called “Delegates,” to learn the values <strong>of</strong> democracy<strong>and</strong> to be leaders in the democratic process.Through delegation meetings, exciting weekendconferences, <strong>and</strong> the 66 th Model Legislature <strong>and</strong> Court,you can simulate how issues are discussed <strong>and</strong> howdecisions are made in our state to create stronger,healthier, more connected communities.Delegation MeetingsDuring weekly meetings at the Y, you’ll discuss currentissues in the state <strong>and</strong> gain h<strong>and</strong>s-on experience in howthe government works. You’ll work with other Delegates towrite a bill, prepare briefs, select governmental positionsto role-play, <strong>and</strong> run for elected <strong>of</strong>fices. Your ultimategoal—to “take over” the State Capitol in Sacrament<strong>of</strong>or one week, where you’ll debate the bill at the <strong>Youth</strong>Assembly <strong>and</strong> Senate <strong>of</strong> the California <strong>YMCA</strong> ModelLegislature <strong>and</strong> Court.Two ConferencesBefore your trip to Sacramento, you’ll prepare <strong>and</strong>train for your debate, as you join other Delegates fromthroughout the state at two relaxed <strong>and</strong> fun weekendconferences at Camp Roberts in Paso Robles. You’llconduct committee sessions <strong>and</strong> model legislativesessions. If you’re elected the <strong>Youth</strong> Governor <strong>of</strong>California, you’ll even preside over the entire conference.66 th Model Legislature <strong>and</strong> CourtAll your work <strong>and</strong> fun as a Delegate peaks when youconvene at the State Capitol. You’ll present <strong>and</strong> debateyour bill <strong>and</strong> work with your friends to implementsolutions through the legislative <strong>and</strong> judicial processes.Join <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Government</strong> <strong>and</strong> makethous<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> new friends from all over California!Earn community service hours for high school credit. The minor is physically able <strong>and</strong> mentally prepared to participate in all activitiesas described in the announcement for the program.In consideration <strong>of</strong> said minor being permitted to enter any branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Silicon</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> (“<strong>YMCA</strong>”) for observation, use<strong>of</strong> facilities <strong>and</strong>/or equipment, or participation <strong>of</strong> the above or any program, I, on behalf <strong>of</strong> myself (as parent, guardian, coach, aide,spectator or participant) hereby:1. Acknowledge that (i) I have read this document, (ii) I have inspected the <strong>YMCA</strong> facilities <strong>and</strong> equipment,(iii) I accept them as being safe <strong>and</strong> reasonable suited for the purposes intended <strong>and</strong> (iv) I voluntarily signthis document.2. Release <strong>YMCA</strong>, its directors, <strong>of</strong>ficers, employees <strong>and</strong> volunteers (collectively “Releases”) from allliability to me for any loss or damage to property or injury or death to person, whether caused byReleases or otherwise <strong>and</strong> while such minor is in or near any <strong>YMCA</strong> branch.3. I agree not to sue Releasees for any loss, damage, injury or death described above <strong>and</strong> I will indemnify<strong>and</strong> hold harmless Releasees <strong>and</strong> each <strong>of</strong> them from any loss, liability, damage or cost they may incur dueto said minor’s presence in, upon or near the <strong>YMCA</strong> branch; whether caused by the negligence <strong>of</strong> Releasees.4. I assume full responsibility for, <strong>and</strong> risk <strong>of</strong>, bodily injury, death or property damage due to the negligence<strong>of</strong> Releasees or otherwise.5. I do hereby authorize the <strong>YMCA</strong> as agent for the undersigned to consent with respect to said minor, toany x-ray examination, anesthetic, medical, dental, or surgical diagnosis or treatment, <strong>and</strong> hospital carewhich is deemed advisable by, <strong>and</strong> is to be rendered under general or special supervision <strong>of</strong>, any physician<strong>and</strong> surgeon licensed under the provisions <strong>of</strong> the California Medical Practice Act on the medical staff <strong>of</strong>any hospital, whether such diagnosis or treatment is rendered at the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the physician or at thehospital. I underst<strong>and</strong> that the <strong>YMCA</strong> is not responsible for costs incurred for medical care.I intend this document to be as broad <strong>and</strong> inclusive as is permitted by the laws <strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> California, if any portion here<strong>of</strong>is held invalid, I agree the balance shall continue in full force <strong>and</strong> effect.Parent / Guardian Signaturedate
