BUILDINGCHARACTER &TEACHINGVALUES<strong>Swim</strong> <strong>Team</strong>SOUTH VALLEY FAMILY <strong>YMCA</strong>About the ProgramThe purpose <strong>of</strong> the South <strong>Valley</strong> Family<strong>YMCA</strong> Killer Whales <strong>Swim</strong> <strong>Team</strong> is to providean environment that promotes a healthysense <strong>of</strong> selfesteem and group interactionguided by the <strong>YMCA</strong> mission. In a caring andpersonalized atmosphere, team memberslearn discipline and commitment to hardwork, as well as the joy <strong>of</strong> achievement andthe fun <strong>of</strong> close friendships.<strong>Swim</strong>mers are coached to improvecompetitive swimming skills includingendurance, stroke refinement, starts, turns,how to swim a workout, and teamwork in anon-competitive environment.
Practice InformationA session <strong>of</strong> <strong>Swim</strong> <strong>Team</strong> begins on the firstday <strong>of</strong> the month and ends on the lat day <strong>of</strong>the month. Practice is held:• Tuesday, 6:30-7:30 p.m.• Thursday, 6:30-7:30 p.m.• Saturday, 8:30-9:30 a.m.Practice is not held on holidays. Whileit is not a requirement to attend everypractice, participants are encouragedto attend all days.Does the <strong>Team</strong> Participatein <strong>Swim</strong> Meets?The Killer Whales compete in meets with the<strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Silicon</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> branches. Meets areheld one day a month at a different branchlocation in our Association. The swim meetsgenerally last about three (3) hours dependingon the number <strong>of</strong> participating teams andmeet entries. The meet location will beannounced monthly. Please see the <strong>Swim</strong>Coaches or Associate Aquatics Director formore information. Parents are responsible fortransporting their child(ren) to meets.<strong>Swim</strong> <strong>Team</strong> EvaluationAll swimmers interested in joining theKiller Whales must first have their swimskills evaluated by a <strong>Swim</strong> Coach or theAssociate Aquatics Director in order toensure that they know the swim strokesneeded to participate in practices Contactthe Associate Aquatics Director to schedulean appointment for your evaluation.RegistrationPre-registration is required monthly.Participants must have a current FacilityMembership or a Program Membershipduring the entire program session.
