Social scientistsfrom the United States, Europe, Asia apart from Indiadeliberated and debated as to the role and relevance ofSocial sciences today where more importance andattention is given to pure sciences and technologicalinnovations at the expense of the former which is taken forgranted and accepted in the academia and generalmainstream which is a matter of concern and which shouldbe duly rectified and appropriated. There was a goodrepresentation from both the developed and thedeveloping countries. The role, relevance andsignificance of Social Sciences was well demonstratedand emphasized by all the speakers in the nation buildingand equitable prosperity, right from Adam Smith down tothe present management gurus like Peter Drucker werediscussed with various references and contexts of ourtimes, the role of the Social Sciences was highlighted andat the same time lamented the lack of interest in the socialsciences in the academia and the student community andthe infinitesimal funds allocated to its research in variousuniversities. The complications which rise due to theadvancement in other sciences and the prosperity and theproblems it brings in its train only the social scientists canprovide and suggest answers and solutions. Theimportance and attention given to the social scientists inMalaysia was an eye opener and really thought provokingas to the vital and indispensable role of the social scientistswhich other countries can and should emulate. The objectiveof the conference was to investigate actual and emergingissues in the wide area of BA and BI. In addition to itscontent, the conference provided ongoing opportunity toLong-term Educational Programmesdiscuss emerging issues and best practices with peers, vendors,and consultants across a broad continuum of BA & BI issues.The Conference was attended by about 70 participants, fromdifferent states, all concerned professionally with BusinessAnalytics and Business Intelligence, either as users, developers,manufacturers, or teachers at universities. The round tablechaired by Shri.Ram Chinta, Global Practice Head-BIMP,Polaris Software Lab Ltd., discussed on “Issues andChallenges of BA & BI in the current scenario”. Thetwo-day National Conference was inaugurated byDr.P.Balakrishna, Chairman of National BiodiversityAuthority. During his inaugural address, Dr.Balakrishnahighlighted on the policy issues relating to climate changemitigation and adaptation in the framework of sustainabledevelopment. He has suggested for an integrated approachinvolving all the individuals and institutions to deal with theimpacts of climate change which are in reality.
