ZZZ M(a)-CRUX.NOV.12_z/CRUX.M/APR.05 23/10/<strong>2012</strong> 16:13 Page 7CRUX – Keeping you in touchPhil is new Canon Precentor<strong>The</strong> Bishop <strong>of</strong> <strong>Manchester</strong>, inconsultation with the Deanand Chapter, has appointedthe Revd Philip Barratt to beCanon Precentor <strong>of</strong> theCathedral.Philip is currently vicar <strong>of</strong>St James, Thornham.Speaking <strong>of</strong> his appointmenthe said, “I am thrilled to bejoining the ministry <strong>of</strong><strong>Manchester</strong> Cathedral at suchan exciting and challengingtime.“A Mancunian by birth, Iwas married as well as ordained in <strong>Manchester</strong>Cathedral and am therefore proud to be servingthe church in the heart <strong>of</strong> the city I love.“I also look forward to taking my placealongside all the members <strong>of</strong> the Cathedralteam, both lay and ordained, as I move to this7next stage <strong>of</strong> my own ministryafter 16 very happy years as aparish priest in Thornham.”Welcoming the appointment,Bishop Nigel said “I amdelighted that Philip is to bePrecentor at the Cathedral. Inthis important role he will servethe people <strong>of</strong> the diocese, countyand city through his priestlyministry, shaping theCathedral’s worship, and praying,teaching and caring for allwho belong to or visit it.”Philip will be installed andcollated in the Cathedral at 10.30am on AdventSunday (December 2).Although having recently worked in a resolutionparish, the new Precentor is supportive <strong>of</strong>the ministry <strong>of</strong> women and happy to receive thesacrament from them.
