GreenPan’s Cookware GreenPan cookware uses Thermolon non-stick coating which is a ceramic-based nano non-stick technology. We are only focused on the independents because they are the only ones who can truly service the customer even after the sale.” Retailers also receive help with merchandising through a complete kit with their Circle #113 first order. The kit includes logo risers (to display the cookware), feature flyers, and high quality brochures. Ro adds, “Fissler reps do offer extensive training with demonstrations, and they will also do cooking events in the stores. Monthly newsletters include new unique recipes, display tips, and useful selling and/or product information.” Ro hits on a major concern for buyers: space. “Not only does a full line mean that you usually have to swap another line out for display space, but it also means Chicago Metallic’s Single Squares Pan The new Lift & Serve Single Squares pan is the latest addition to Chicago Metallic’s popular Lift & Serve line of bakeware. We make sure that they sell out and that their customers are happy.” When asked about trends in cookware, Ro zeroes in on saving energy. Ro notes, “Consumers already base many of their major housewares and appliance purchases on Energy-Star and low-energy consumption. It only makes sense that they save additional energy while cooking. This concept has only been focused on appliances such as the stoves, but it does translate well into the cookware itself.” Add the US consumer’s desire for saving time, and you have the perfect market for the resurgence of the pressure cooker, one of Fissler’s premier products. “Pressure cooking has never gone out of style in Europe or Asia,” notes Ro. “I personally find it baffling that many US consumers still bring up their grandmother’s ‘exploding’ pressure cooker from the 1950’s. The Titanic sank, but people aren’t afraid to go on cruises nor do they bring up the Titanic every time a boat is mentioned. We’re in 2008, and pressure cooking has had over 50 years to advance, improve, and become absolutely safe. Fissler was one of the companies who pioneered pressure cooking into what it is today. The new Pressure Pan is actually an old concept developed by Fissler in 1969 when they invented the first pressure skillet. We found that consumers are looking for multi-functional and versatile cookware.” Ro added, “We all have a lack of storage space in the kitchen and don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars buying several different pieces. The pressure pan combines a deep sauté pan, our best-selling grill pan, steamer, fryer, and pressure cooker into one to make it the ultimate cookware piece. Pressure cooking will gain some more popularity as the issue of energy-conservation continues. However, the vendors really need to take part in educating the public on the safety and benefits.” Fissler did their part in demonstrating safety and ease-of-use at the 2008 International Home + Housewares Show. They used kid chefs in their booth. Fissler USA also has a product that addresses another major US market concern, low fat cooking. The patented Novogrill texture was introduced in the 1950’s and has been a popular feature of Fissler frying pans in Europe and Asia. Because of the 100% flat base and the bumpy texture, Ro explains, the oil stays put where you apply it rather than pooling to one side or the other, allowing you to use less oil in cooking. What’s next for Fissler USA? They will limit the number of new products for 2008 and concentrate on supporting the independent dealers to sell their product. “We have increased our PR and marketing efforts especially for the holiday season,” says Ro. One new program is the introduction of a frying pan gift set which will include their best-selling Steelux frying pan, a nonstick frying pan, a Clippix spatter shield, and a turner. The MSRP value of this set it $477 (MAP is over $370), but it will be sold at a promotional price of $299. Ro sees the US consumer becoming more and more educated regarding purchases because they are more cautious in today’s economy.
