We didn’t eat thereso I can’t vouch for them, but we heardthat the burgers are everything from greatto just OK.Another place just outside the parkthat you may find worth visiting is MedicinePark. Located at the main entry(east end) of the park on Highway 49,the picturesque town is known as America’scobblestone community. The PlainsIndians were very familiar with this quietoasis, but that was long before the townwas originally founded on July 4, 1908,by Oklahoma Senator Elmer Thomas. Itwas Oklahoma’s first planned tourismresort. Medicine Creek flows throughthe area with Medicine Park Trail, a solidsurface pathway lined by cobblestones,paralleling the creek.Most refuge visitors make it a pointto visit The Holy City of the Wichitas, locatedin the heart of the wildlife refuge.Open all year, it is the site of The Princeof Peace, the nation’s longest runningEaster passion play. Admission is free.There’s a gift shop, restrooms and theWorld Chapel, which is available forweddings. The Wallock Memorial Museumdisplays the history of the play’s1926 beginning to the present.You’ll find plenty of information at theQuanah Parker Visitor Center, locatednear the campground and north of Cache,near a more southwesterly junction ofState Highways 115 and 49. A wonderfulvisitor center with exhibits displaying thefour major habitat types — rocklands,aquatic, mixed-grass prairie and crosstimbers — a bookstore and restrooms areopen seven days a week.
