Chairman’s MessageThis year’s Chingay Parade was a little more special than others in many ways.Firstly, the brightly-lit and colourful floats travelled through our GRC – fromGilstead Road to Geylang Bahru. Secondly, crowds thronged the streets to catchthe parade and soak in the atmosphere. But, perhaps most heartwarming is the sight of people of all races – Chinese,Malay, Indian, and Eurasian – coming together in a time of celebration. Familiestook the opportunity to have a night out together while neighbours gathered tocatch the parade. This is what a community is about – people coming together in neighbourhoods, interacting with one another, and caring for and looking after each other. This iswhat we call home.Besides the parade, other community activities take place in our Moulmein-KallangGRC and Whampoa SMC. For example, Breakfast with Love is aimed at reaching outto the needy in Kampong Glam while Project Butterfly looks after low income andhomebound residents in Whampoa. These are just some of the many initiatives ledby our grassroots organisations and other community groups. If each of us looks out for our neighbours and contributes what we can, our townwill indeed be a testimony to others and a wonderful place to live in.ContentsEnvironmentPhase 1 of ABC Waters Projects to be 03completed next yearA place to meet friends 04A creative solution 04Enhancing our living environment 05Yours sincerely,Denise Phua, ChairmanMeet-the-people Sessionskolam ayerAssoc Prof Yaacob IbrahimMinister for Communications and Information & Minister-in-chargeof Muslim Affairs, MP for Moulmein – Kallang GRCVenue: Block 64 Kallang Bahru #01-373 Singapore 330064Day: Every Monday (except public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6293 6443 Fax: 6299 8570Venue: Block 52 Sims Place #01-138 Singapore 380052Day: Last Wednesday of the month (except public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6742 3108 Fax: 6748 5901Mr Lui Tuck YewMinister for Transport, MP for Moulmein – Kallang GRCVenue: Block 52 Kent Road #01-23 Singapore 210052Day: Every Monday (except public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6293 0592 Fax: 6296 8840Ms Denise Phua Lay PengChairman of Moulmein – Kallang Town CouncilMP for Moulmein – Kallang GRCVenue: Block 462 Crawford Lane #03-33 Singapore 190462Day: Every Wednesday (except eves of and public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6292 1784 Fax: 6293 1210Mr Edwin Tong Chun FaiVice Chairman of Moulmein – Kallang Town CouncilMP for Moulmein – Kallang GRCmoulmeinkampong glamjalan besarPeopleHeartland Chingay Parade thrills 06crowdsBowling tournament draws 150 07Telematch brings out the 07kampong spiritKolam Ayer hands out Edusave awards 08An engaging Lunar New Year 08Serving breakfast with love 09Project Butterfly brings smiles to 09needy Whampoa residents02 TouchPointVenue: Block 806 King George’s Avenue #03-222 Singapore 200806Day: Every Wednesday (except public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6297 1616 Fax: 6299 9507Mr Heng Chee HowSenior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s OfficeMP for Whampoa SMCWHAMPOAVenue: Block 85 Whampoa Drive #01-248 Singapore 320085Day: Every Monday (except public holidays)Time: 8.00pm Tel: 6255 8986 Fax: 6352 4359HeartArt with heart 10Islamic Restaurant 10Cleaner air for a healthier Singapore 12Keep our common areas clutter-free 12
