of its extensive supplement (pp. 157–191), which contains translations of
recent articles on papermaking by Loysel, Cunningham, Bigg, Campell,
Chaptal and Benjamin Franklin, especially on the question of bleaching.
Further chapters deal with making paper from straw and other materials
(with reference to Koops), and with Benjamin Franklin’s proposal for making
large sheets of paper Chinese style.
The fine engraved plates show various stages of papermaking and give
extensive details of the machinery involved.
