STAGE 2 FOOD & HOSPITALITY CULTURAL CAFE
On Tuesday 15th May, the Year 12
Food and Hospitality students held a
Cultural Café in the Dining room of the
Rec Centre. We invited a number of
paying guests including Gleeson Staff
and our family members.
We chose groups of 2 to 3 and decided
on a specifi c culture to represent with
a two course meal .We trialled the
recipes to ensure they were suitable
and achievable. The cultures chosen
were Mexican, American, Italian,
Indian, Thai, English and Greek.
Before the guests arrived, lots of
preparati on and hard work took place
to ensure the café ran smoothly and all
dishes were ready to serve by 1:05pm.
Serving 6-8 people on each table ended
up being a challenge. Yet with use of
teamwork, planning and organisati on
the class successfully catered for
the 2012 Cultural Café event. It was
amazing that despite the ‘chaos’ in the
kitchen during service, the atmosphere
in the dining room was peaceful.
The Cultural Café was a successful
functi on that showcased a range of
unique cultures. The meals prepared
looked and tasted amazing and would
be considered café quality. It was a
fantasti c and enjoyable day for both
guests and the Year 12 Food and
Hospitality class.
