PART THREE: PRIORITY FLORA IN THE GERALDTON DISTRICTThe taxa treated <strong>in</strong> this section are those listed on CALM’s Priority <strong>Flora</strong> List (October 1996) for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Geraldton</strong> <strong>District</strong>.The priority categories are outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> Part 1.4. The treatments follow <strong>the</strong> format <strong>in</strong> Part 2.Priority One, Two <strong>and</strong> Three taxa require fur<strong>the</strong>r survey to determ<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong>ir conservation status as <strong>the</strong>y do not meet <strong>the</strong>requirements for gazettal as <strong>Rare</strong> <strong>Flora</strong>. They may be added to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Declared</strong> <strong>Rare</strong> <strong>Flora</strong> Schedule if <strong>the</strong>y prove to betruly rare, endangered or <strong>in</strong> need of special protection. Populations of <strong>the</strong>se taxa, particularly those listed as PriorityOne <strong>and</strong> Two, should be protected from accidental damage or destruction.There are 119 Priority One, 80 Priority Two <strong>and</strong> 65 Priority Three Taxa which have been found to occur <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>District</strong>,<strong>and</strong> survey priority was given to those <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Priority One <strong>and</strong> Two categories. 308 new populations were recorded for84 taxa <strong>and</strong> some were found to be more abundant than was previously thought. Table 3 lists <strong>the</strong> current <strong>and</strong>recommended status for all priority taxa <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Geraldton</strong> <strong>District</strong>.24
