<strong>JOB</strong> <strong>DESCRIPTION</strong><strong>JOB</strong> <strong>TITLE</strong>:<strong>DIRECTORATE</strong>:<strong>SECTION</strong>:<strong>GRADE</strong>:English Consultant (Primary National Strategy)Children, Families and Learning(Learning and School Support)School ImprovementSoulbury point 9 to 12 ( to 15 with SPA)DATE PREPARED: June 2007 (Revised January 2009)CLOSING DATE: 15 th March 2009REPORTS TO:English Strand Leader<strong>JOB</strong> PURPOSE:To provide training and support to schools, teachers and children (Foundation Stage,KS1 and 2) in order to raise standards in English.To carry out actions in plans relevant to the School Improvement Team and thePrimary National Strategy.MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:• Provide training in English (including advice on resources), and specificallythe National Literacy Strategy, to headteachers, governors and teachers inthe primary phase.• Develop teachers’ abilities through utilising a range of professionaldevelopment resources including coaching and modelling teaching anddemonstrating effective classroom practice.• Provide guidance on assessment linked to the subject including the use ofpupil tracking systems.• Provide in-school support and guidance to schools, including those withintervention plans, to secure continual improvement where required.• Assist schools in preparing audits and action plans for the development ofliteracy.• Work with other teams in School Standards and Improvement and otherswithin the Local Authority to ensure that there are cross-curricular and crossphase dimensions to support and guidance, thereby promoting continuity andprogression.• Provide additional support as required to support the Local Authority’sstatutory functions e.g. in respect of additional support for NQTs experiencingdifficulties, or where a pupil is at risk of exclusion.• Compile reports on the progress of schools towards meeting targets.• Take part in relevant LA and Regional meeting related to the Primary NationalStrategy.• Compile reports and notes of visit in accordance with LA practice.• Receive training and development relevant to the post.• Undertake other duties consistent with the grade and expertise of the
