1 Chaplaincy service There is a lay Roman Catholic chaplain available Monday to Friday. Normally the chaplain will visit each ward every day, but you can contact them through the midwifery or nursing staff. The chaplain is available to people of all faiths and of no specific faith. Chaplains and ministers from the Church of Ireland, Methodist and the Presbyterian Churches visit the Rotunda regularly. We will contact ministers or chaplains of other faiths if you ask us to. The chaplaincy services include: • pastoral visit of patients to provide support and the opportunity for a confidential conversation on anything that is concerning the patient and/or her family; • praying with and for patients if asked; • providing and saying blessings or prayers for various occasions if asked; • helping to give the sacraments of Baptism and reception of Holy Communion if asked; • giving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick depends whether an ordained priest is available; • co-ordinating various religious, spiritual and pastoral services throughout the year; and • co-ordinating with chaplains and ministers of other faiths. Catering services We try to provide the highest quality food and service to all our patients. Each patient in the Rotunda Hospital gets a choice of menu every day. Our menus have a wide variety of dishes made from fresh wholesome ingredients. We promote healthy eating and we will cater for all dietary, religious and cultural needs when we are planning the menu. Please tell the catering staff if you have a specific dietary need and we will make every effort to include this. Since 2001, the Rotunda catering department has been awarded the Hygiene Mark from Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA). The hospital received the Triple Award in 2004/2005, and the Emerald Award in 2008 and 2009. Because of health and safety, patients may only eat food that is prepared in the hospital kitchen. You are not allowed to bring food from home, restaurants or takeaways into the hospital. (This includes food from Café Rotunda.) Fruit, confectionery and drinks are allowed. 16
Café Rotunda Café Rotunda is at the heart of the new hospital foyer. It combines a specialised convenience store offering a sit down and food-to-go service. The convenience store has everything mother and baby needs and something for dad too! We have everything from baby gifts like clothes and soft toys, toiletries, call credit to tell everyone the news and lots of reading material and chocolate. Café Rotunda offers the very best convenience food to EIQA standards of excellence. The menu includes New York bagels, hot ciabatta, toasted paninis, wraps, and a huge range of sandwiches and salads. You can sit down with a coffee and relax or order to go.
