“ This is your guide to the council’s services, and it provides you with all the information you need Cllr. to contact us. I hope you will keep it over the next twelve months as a handy reference. It also includes information about your council tax, which hasn’t been increased. It is hard to escape news about the squeeze on the nation’s finances, and the pressure this puts, in turn, on household budgets. Everyone continues to feel the pinch, which is why we have decided to freeze your bill again this year. That’s not to say that it’s been easy to achieve. Like all councils, demand for our services is rising every month, and at the same time we’re facing reduced financial support from central government and reductions in income, all due to the economic downturn. Welcome Along with our partners, such as Leader, Swindon the police and fire services, we Borough Council have worked extremely hard to find the savings and efficiencies to keep council tax as it was last year. It’s quite rightly what you would expect us to do, but it has been necessary to make some difficult decisions about our priorities, and reduce the number of people who work for us. The financial climate will remain extremely challenging for the council over the next few years. This booklet lists the huge range of services we deliver. While no-one uses them all, they are all important, and I hope the list serves as a reminder as to why local government exists and why it is necessary. Roderick “ Cllr.
