The program, to be <strong>in</strong>troduced to the school’s roster <strong>in</strong> October 2013, willaddress the specific economic and managerial issues fac<strong>in</strong>g organizations operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the arts andculture world today.Cultural and artistic <strong>in</strong>stitutions are experienc<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>of</strong>ound changes <strong>in</strong> the market and are cont<strong>in</strong>uallylook<strong>in</strong>g for new ways to f<strong>in</strong>d pr<strong>of</strong>it <strong>in</strong> the tough new economic context. Faced with these challenges,these organizations are search<strong>in</strong>g for new talent whose skills and managerial practices have beenadapted to face these modern tests.The courses sem<strong>in</strong>ars will be aimed specifically at graduates who wish to enter <strong>in</strong>to the creative andcultural <strong>in</strong>dustry. All major strategic discipl<strong>in</strong>es will be addressed, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the economics and market<strong>in</strong>g<strong>of</strong> culture, <strong>in</strong>ternational art law, manag<strong>in</strong>g art organizations, the art market today and art history.Ensur<strong>in</strong>g the f<strong>in</strong>ancial stability <strong>of</strong> cultural organizations, creat<strong>in</strong>g art projects, organiz<strong>in</strong>g auctions, andmanag<strong>in</strong>g art <strong>in</strong>stitutions are just some <strong>of</strong> the other areas which will be covered dur<strong>in</strong>g the one yearcourse.Students will learn how to formulate new strategies to make a pr<strong>of</strong>it, ways to source additional f<strong>in</strong>ancialand human resources <strong>in</strong> today’s market, methods <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g new partnerships and sponsors and howto deal with the effects <strong>of</strong> democratization <strong>of</strong> culture.The students will be expected to work on case studies <strong>of</strong> actual practices <strong>of</strong> cultural organizations, <strong>in</strong>addition to frequent visits to <strong>in</strong>stitutions and renowned art exhibitions.The <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Management</strong> will be 9 months full-time, with an obligatory 4-6 month<strong>in</strong>ternship at the end <strong>of</strong> the course. It will be structured around 12 modules <strong>of</strong> 30 hours on managementand adm<strong>in</strong>istration, adapted purely to arts and cultural organizations. The modules will be delivered byexperts from the world <strong>of</strong> art, ensur<strong>in</strong>g the adequacy <strong>of</strong> the educational content as well as the needs <strong>of</strong>the market.
The new program is placed under the direction <strong>of</strong> Joëlle Lagier, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g at RouenBus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>School</strong> who holds a PhD <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g from the University <strong>of</strong> Dijon.A specialist <strong>in</strong> corporate communication and cultural market<strong>in</strong>g, she is a research member <strong>of</strong> theCERMAB laboratory and the head <strong>of</strong> research for markets, brands & experiences at Rouen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<strong>School</strong>. Her work <strong>in</strong>volves specifically the aesthetic perception and experience from an artistic andmulti-cultural po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>of</strong> view.Beyond her teach<strong>in</strong>g and research activities, Joëlle Lagier is herself a pa<strong>in</strong>ter, a part <strong>of</strong> the ‘action pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g’ schoolwhich emerged <strong>in</strong> New York at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the1950s.About Rouen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>School</strong>:"Explor<strong>in</strong>g new worlds, go<strong>in</strong>g forward as responsible leaders."
