MARKETING GUIDELINESRACE SEASON 2009/2010SAMPLE PRESS RELEASE 1<strong>For</strong>mula 1 Rac<strong>in</strong>g Comes to (SCHOOL NAME)!Or(SCHOOL NAME) Revs Up to <strong>For</strong>mula 1 ChallengeCounty, DATE, - (SCHOOL NAME) has signed up a <strong>team</strong>(S) to participate <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>F1</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>Technology Challenge. Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>team</strong>(S) (NAMES) will be required to make anaerodynamic model <strong>F1</strong> car which will be raced aga<strong>in</strong>st o<strong>the</strong>r participat<strong>in</strong>g schools <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> RegionalF<strong>in</strong>als <strong>in</strong> March and National F<strong>in</strong>al <strong>in</strong> April. This is <strong>the</strong> fifth year for <strong>the</strong> competition to run <strong>in</strong>Ireland under <strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Irish Computer Society (ICS) <strong>in</strong> partnership with DiscoverScience & Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g.(STUDENT NAME) <strong>of</strong> (SCHOOL NAME) expla<strong>in</strong>s why <strong>the</strong>ir school chose to enter <strong>F1</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>Challenge: QUOTE – (about 2-3 sentences long).(SCHOOL NAME) <strong>team</strong>(S) will be required to write a five page plan expla<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g how <strong>the</strong>y would goabout putt<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir model <strong>F1</strong> car toge<strong>the</strong>r should <strong>the</strong>y qualify for <strong>the</strong> Regionals.Once a school <strong>team</strong> has qualified <strong>the</strong>y will receive a kit which <strong>in</strong>cludes balsa wood for mak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>model. Ongo<strong>in</strong>g support will be <strong>of</strong>fered and <strong>the</strong> school will be paired with a <strong>For</strong>mula 1 MakeCentre i.e. a college or university with <strong>the</strong> necessary equipment for mill<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> models. This<strong>in</strong>teraction with colleges will give students an <strong>in</strong>troduction to Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, Science andTechnology choices at third level. <strong>The</strong> colleges will <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>the</strong>ir paired <strong>team</strong>s <strong>the</strong> opportunity to visit<strong>the</strong>ir facilities for design tutorials, to show models be<strong>in</strong>g made and cars be<strong>in</strong>g tested. Each car measures about 25cms long.Student <strong>team</strong>s will compete aga<strong>in</strong>st each o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong> a National Championship to determ<strong>in</strong>e<strong>the</strong> best-eng<strong>in</strong>eered and fastest car <strong>in</strong> Ireland.<strong>The</strong> w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g car will be judged on design, speed and <strong>the</strong> school <strong>team</strong>‟s full projectpresentation.<strong>The</strong> overall w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>team</strong> at <strong>the</strong> International f<strong>in</strong>als, due to be held <strong>in</strong> Autumn 2010, willreceive stunn<strong>in</strong>g prizes, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>The</strong> Bernie Ecclestone Trophy and a three year fullscholarship to study Motorsport and Automotive Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g at City University London.This year‟s w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>team</strong> from Ireland will go to <strong>the</strong> International f<strong>in</strong>als <strong>in</strong> 2011, at alocation yet to be decided.
