Primary Care Manager (PCM) physician for urgent or emergency care within 24 hoursof receiving care. Bona fide life or death emergencies or threat to life should dial 911or proceed to the nearest hospital. TRICARE Extra & Standard participants shoulddial 911 or proceed to the nearest hospital for emergency care. Urgent care may bereceived from participating hospital or Prompt Care Services. Active duty militarymembers should provide TRICARE information and Identification Card to hospitalpersonnel when receiving urgent or emergency care. The HBA can explain eligibility, ifthe desired care is covered, and help in locating doctors who accept TRICARE.Supplemental insurance to cover your cost-share under TRICARE is available. TheHBA can direct you to associations and companies that offer TRICARE SupplementalInsurance policies. TRICARE Prime is a health maintenance organization (HMO) option. Active dutyfamily members may choose to enroll in this option and do not pay an annualenrollment fee. Retirees and their family members choosing to enroll in this optionpay an annual enrollment fee. There are no deductibles to be met with this option.Enrollees selecting this option choose a primary care manager (PCM) in the militaryMTF (referred to as MTF Prime enrollees) or from the network of civilian providers(referred to as Contractor Prime enrollees) to provide or arrange for their health careneeds. The TRICARE Prime option offers the scope of coverage available underStandard CHAMPUS, plus additional preventive and primary care services. TheTRICARE Prime benefit also includes a new point of service option that allowsenrollees to retain freedom of choice to use providers without an authorization fromtheir PCM, but at significantly higher cost sharing than TRICARE Standard. As withthe TRICARE Extra, beneficiaries are relieved of the burden of filing any CHAMPUSclaims when using TRICARE network providers.TRICARE Extra is a preferred provider network (PPN) option, with discounts. Thisoption allows beneficiaries under the TRICARE Standard option to receive their carefrom civilian network providers, on a case-by-case basis, at a reduced cost sharecompared to TRICARE Standard, without having to ever file a CHAMPUS claim form.Standard CHAMPUS deductibles are applicable, and enrollment in this option is nota requirement.TRICARE Standard is the same as Standard CHAMPUS. This fee-for-service optionprovides the most freedom of choice to beneficiaries but could result in the most outof-pocketexpense. Once annual deductibles have been met the beneficiary must paycost shares. Beneficiaries are required to file their own claim forms under thisoption.TRICARE North Region representatives provide a detailed briefing during the monthlyNewcomer Briefing from 0830 to 0930 hours and are available to answer questionsall morning.
