With not a lotto do in a small Nebraska town, Carrie’s love for singing began atan early age, watching and imitating “Barbara Mandrell and theMandrell Sisters Show.” Carrie loved to watch the way Barbaraand her sisters used the stage and performed; they are theinfluences that helped Carrie discover her passion to become anentertainer. Although her parents loved theMidwest, they believed the Northwestwould increase their chances ofMeet the BandCarrie Cunninghamhaving successful careers. Feelingout-of-place and insecure, Carrie’sJeff Knappteacher suggested she join themiddle school acappella and jazzBlaine Moodychoirs. Carrie soon found comfortTim Rooneyand felt a sense of belonging.Dale Granstrom Carrie started to build herDirk Alanconfidence and began performingsolos to packed gymnasiums.Although Carrie was singing classicaland jazz music in school, she found comfortat home listening to Alabama, Patsy Cline, and Jim Croce, whilelistening to a few newpop-rock sounds likethose of Damn Yankees“Carrie’s lyrical writingrivals her amazing voice…pure songs that leavesome mystery and invokedistinct, vivid imagery!”- KXLY Ch. 4Spokaneof their begging, she agreed to join the band asa part front man. Carrie found there weremoral confrontations and was not going tosacrifice what she believed in for a coverband, so she ended the relationship. Withintwo weeks, Divulge Records signed Carrieto a recording deal. Branching out for thefirst time as a solo performer and Nashvilleand Aerosmith. Duringhigh school, Carrie’svocal talents developedtremendously and earnedher a seat for All-Stateand All-Northwest Choirs.Because of the four-toeight–partharmoniesCarrie’s ear was now used to, she began to listen a little moreclosely to pop and Motown music. <strong>The</strong> Mamas and the Papasand the Supremes were the main source of ear candy for Carrie,along with a few bands off the radio. Wanting to find her place inmusic, Carrie began to focus on the music that really brought herback to her roots in Nebraska. At this moment of her life, RebaMcEntire exploded onto the Country Charts. Carrie knew her lifewas going to revolve around country from that day forward. Sheentered her first country singing competition in Spokane, Wash.,at the age of 19 and took fourth place. Singing in college choirand taking private vocal lessons helped Carrie take home firstplace at the 100th Anniversary Eagles Auxillary National TalentCompetition a few years later. Once college was over, Carriejoined the Spokane Symphony Choral in order for her to maintainher vocal strength. She ended up staying for five years.Carrie started dabbling into songwriting in 1996 after beinga part of many different cover bands from blues and classicrock to a performing and songwriting duo for two years. Shefound that singing other people’s songs paid the bills, but werenot personally satisfying. Currently, the song “Smile Again,” from herdebut solo album Honeysweet, is becoming a staple theme songfor various organizations and podcasts such as the VanishedChildren’s Alliance and Emergency 911.With years of performing experience, Carrie religiouslydraws the audience into a wondrous musical experience thathas them walking away certain that they have just witnesseda rising entertainer on her way to stardom. Where and whenwill she be appearing next is always a bombarding question thatcomes Carrie’s way.
