We will however,require the vehicle’s registration number,a copy <strong>of</strong> the insurance details, car tax andM.O.T. certificate, along with two forms <strong>of</strong>the owner’s identification.There is a large onsite car park for residentsto use with direct access to the main roadin and out <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grimsby</strong> centre. There is alsoample parking at the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> maincampus for residents who need to travel into study and leave their vehicle.Health & Safety InformationFire safety equipment is fully integrated intoall buildings including smoke detectors in allrooms and communal areas, foam and CO2fire extinguishers and fire alarm activationpoints. There are fire exit signs and firenotices to inform residents what to do incase a fire breaks out, and also rally pointsfor residents to meet at a safe distance fromthe building until help arrives.Under UK law, smoking is prohibited withinany <strong>of</strong> the Halls <strong>of</strong> Residence or any publicbuilding (this also includes bedrooms). Ifyou wish to smoke, all accommodationblocks have smoking shelters away from thebuilding for the health and safety <strong>of</strong> otherresidents.As full cooking facilities are provided in theaccommodation, cooking is not allowed inthe building except for the kitchen. Main FeaturesThe Towers can accommodate up to 45 residents across 21 single and 12 twin sharedrooms. All rooms come equipped with wash basins; as standard, communal toilets andshowers can be found on all three floors <strong>of</strong> the building.The Towers boasts a large learner kitchen consisting <strong>of</strong> ample cupboard space as well asrange cookers, toaster, kettles and microwaves. We also provide enough fridge and freezerspace to suit the accommodation. In addition to this there are two communal lounge areas,both <strong>of</strong> which have a digital TV. One <strong>of</strong> the rooms has a dinning area and the other a pooltable.All <strong>of</strong> our communal areas have sensor lighting which saves both energy and aids ease<strong>of</strong> use. The laundry facilities are also on the ground floor next to the rear entrance to thebuilding. There is a main staircase just <strong>of</strong>f from the front entrance that gives access tothe first and second floors, however there is also a lift that can be used if residents havedifficulty travelling up and down sets <strong>of</strong> stairs. There are two post areas in the Towers, thefirst being at the front <strong>of</strong> the building where it initially arrives, and is then separated intopigeon holes for each individual resident.2


Additional InformationThe Towers Halls <strong>of</strong> Residence has its own onsite car park which is protected by a surrounding perimeter wall and is monitored by the<strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s security system. In the event that you misplace your room key, <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Security Personnel and the ResidentialAccommodation Officer (<strong>of</strong>fice hours) will be on hand to provide you with a temporary replacement (provided at a charge <strong>of</strong> £20).For cyclists there is also a bike shelter next to the main building. As is the case with all <strong>of</strong> our Halls <strong>of</strong> Residences, the Towers is in closeproximity to both the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> main campus and the town centre, being just a five minute walk from each. If you require the busto get to other locations, there is a bus stop less than one minute from the accommodation.3


BackgroundScartho Hall has been part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grimsby</strong>’sheritage for three generations and issteeped in history. The building itself waspreviously owned by an affluent Solicitorwho owned a catalogue <strong>of</strong> propertiesin the Great <strong>Grimsby</strong> area. The <strong>Grimsby</strong><strong>Institute</strong> purchased the dilapidatedproperty in 2007 and began a project thatwould bring a new lease <strong>of</strong> life to the listedbuilding. Easily mistaken for a stately homefrom the outside, it is one <strong>of</strong> the mostattractive settings in the area surroundedby large grassy areas overshadowed by talltrees and wildlife.The <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> has a verystrong reputation in terms <strong>of</strong> propertyregeneration in order to be used foreducational purposes, and Scartho Halltakes its rightful place as one <strong>of</strong> theflagship examples.Main Features (Main Building)Scartho Hall can accommodate 28 residents allocated across 22 single and 3 twin sharedrooms. It is a two-storey building with communal toilet and shower facilities on both floors.There are two main entrances to the main building at the front and rear, and at the front<strong>of</strong> the building you will find the post room and information boards for residents. Near therear <strong>of</strong> the building is the stainless steel kitchen, complete with several large cookers andfridge freezers coupled with plenty <strong>of</strong> storage space. In addition to this we also supplymicrowaves, kettles and toasters.There is a small lounge area in a mezzanine style accessed via a staircase from the poolroom. The lounge has both bean bag and static seating and also includes a digital TV.On the ground floor to the rear <strong>of</strong> the building there is a communal laundry room.All <strong>of</strong> the the corridors are fitted with automatic light sensors that turn the lights on whensomebody enters the vicinity, making Scartho Hall energy efficient.Stable SuitesAt the rear <strong>of</strong> the main building are theStable Suites, consisting <strong>of</strong> 5 rooms.These are more expensive due to theadded privacy that they provide, coupledwith their ensuite facilities. All rooms arejust a short walk across the courtyard tothe main building where they have full use<strong>of</strong> the communal facilities.4


Additional InformationScartho Hall is situated a short 15 minute walk from away from the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s Nuns Corner campus via the main road towards<strong>Grimsby</strong>. Scartho Hall is set back about 200 meters from the main road behind large grassy and wooded areas to add to its secludednature, without being removed from main access points to surrounding areas. Just outside the Halls <strong>of</strong> Residence is a bus stop that allowsresidents to travel both to and from the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> and on to the town centre.In close proximity to the accommodation is Scartho Village where you will find a small convenience store, hairdressers, bank, take-awayrestaurants and much more all within a five minute walk. In the same village there is a large park for recreation and also a pub that servesboth food and drink. For medical peace-<strong>of</strong>-mind, approximately a five minute walk from the accommodation is the main <strong>Grimsby</strong> DianaPrincess <strong>of</strong> Wales Hospital. Regarding sport and leisure, in between the main campus and Scartho Hall is the <strong>Grimsby</strong> Swimming Poolcomplete with a 25 metre pool, gym and fitness facilities.5


Main FeaturesThe Humber Lodge can accommodate 62 residents allocated across 50 single and six twinshared rooms, all with wash basins included. There are two floors that make up Phase Oneand three floors for Phase Two, each floor is equipped with shower and toilet facilities forcommunal use. There is a large kitchen on the ground floor <strong>of</strong> Phase One for all learners touse, fully equipped with several cooker units, fridges, freezers and plenty <strong>of</strong> worktop spacefor many residents to share.Phase Two has a slightly different design to Phase One in that it has kitchen facilities on allthree floors in order to allow greater access for the increased number <strong>of</strong> residents. On theground floor you will find the laundry room and also a large common room, including apool table and Digital TV.All rooms have high speed internet access for users to connect their machines to thesystem (via an Ethernet cable) with full IT support on hand to resolve any issues that mayarise.6


Additional InformationThe Humber Lodge has the benefit <strong>of</strong> having a large car park on-site for its residents’ personal use, and also bike storage facilities. Thewhole complex is monitored by the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s 24 hour security system, with personnel at main site just a two minute walk awayon-hand to address any issues that may arise.The location <strong>of</strong> the Humber Lodge is why this is one <strong>of</strong> our most desirable accommodation blocks, as it is just across the road from themain <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> campus. Also, for those that are studying at one <strong>of</strong> our other sites, there is a bus stop to and from the centre <strong>of</strong>town just outside the accommodation. Also regarding location, People’s Park is only a 10 minute walk from the accommodation. Here youcan find a pond, large open grass areas and a pavilion.7


BackgroundWelholme House is the <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’slatest Halls <strong>of</strong> Residence, recentlyrefurbished in 2009 from an old historicbuilding into a high-quality academicresidence. With costs reaching around£700,000 for the project, this reflectsthe scale <strong>of</strong> the development and themodernisation process undertaken to makeit one <strong>of</strong> the most desirable places to livein the area. The project took only threemonths to complete from start to finish,with teams <strong>of</strong> tradesman working aroundthe clock to finish the accommodation intime for the start <strong>of</strong> the 2009 academicyear. Many <strong>of</strong> the existing features <strong>of</strong>the property remain, including the highwindows and ceilings, the original oakstaircase and the ‘Coach House’ at therear <strong>of</strong> the property that provides separateprivate accommodation on the same site.Main Features (Main Building)Welholme House can accommodate 21 residents across one single and 10 twin sharedrooms. All rooms are ensuite to give learners the benefit <strong>of</strong> greater privacy and flexibilityin terms <strong>of</strong> using the amenities. All rooms are very large to ensure that those sharing havemore than enough space for each other, with each room having high ceilings and largewindows. The site itself is split into two areas, the main building itself and the ‘CoachHouse’ at the rear. The main building has 13 <strong>of</strong> the 21 available beds across six shared twinrooms and one single room, which includes full disabled access.On the ground floor there is a learner common room complete with leather s<strong>of</strong>as and adigital TV for the occupants to use at their leisure. The kitchen is also on the ground floorin the main building and is completely stainless steel, with two large cookers, a centralisland for preparation, three large fridges and a dining area adjoining the kitchen forlearners to sit and eat together if they wish (this accommodation is self catered).Opposite the kitchen is the laundry room where ample facilities to suit the accommodation.Also, there is a separate washroom and toilet for communal use complete with disabledfacilities. The top floor <strong>of</strong> the main building is accessed by the original oak staircase, wherewe have four large shared twin rooms, again all with en-suite facilities. There is also ashared bathroom that any <strong>of</strong> the occupants can use at the top <strong>of</strong> the stairs if they wish.Like all the other Halls <strong>of</strong> Residence, there is full CCTV coverage which is connected back tothe main security <strong>of</strong>fice.Coach HouseIn addition to the main building we havethe Coach House, which is a completelyseparate annex used for accommodation.This additional building is comprised <strong>of</strong>four shared twin rooms, again completewith en-suite facilities. This building isseparated by car parking facilities to themain building, where the residents havegreater privacy but still have to access themain building to use the kitchen, laundryand common room facilities.8


Additional InformationOnsite car parking is available for residents to use at their discretion. Within the grounds there is a walled garden with a large grass openarea where learners can relax and use the space for a range <strong>of</strong> activities. Bicycle shelters are also included at the back <strong>of</strong> the site whereresidents can safely lock them up and keep them protected from the elements.There is an advanced security system in place for the whole accommodation area, which is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a weekby <strong>Grimsby</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Security Personnel at our main site just 10 minutes walk away.The location is perhaps the greatest asset to the site as it is in very close proximity to both the main campus and the town centre. Justacross the road from Welholme House is The Wheatsheaf pub that <strong>of</strong>fers great deals on both food and drink and is ideally situated forlearners staying at Welholme House. Also regarding location, People’s Park is again only a 10 minute walk from the accommodation. Hereyou can find a pond, large open grass areas and a pavilion.9
