SINCE 1943 THREE GENERATIONS of the Robbins Family have 

owned and operated Robbins Auto Top Company. We began as an 

automotive trim and upholstery shop and developed into a full scale 

manufacturer of convertible Tops, Tonneau Covers, Glass and Plastic Rear 

Windows and other products for convertibles. In April 2001, Robbins 

moved into a new 53,000 sq. ft. plant in Oxnard, CA. We look forward to 

providing our customers with the highest quality products available for 

many years to come. 

ROBBINS CONVERTIBLE TOPS feature distinctive styling, fine 

custom workmanship, and attention to detail. All Robbins convertible 

Tops, Tonneau Covers, Glass and Plastic Windows and other products are 

cut from precise, computer designed patterns, carefully tested in our own 

R & D Installation Facility. Original factory designs are followed and 

improved upon when necessary, by adding extra reinforcements or 

components as part of our commitment to quality in manufacturing our 

convertible Tops. We use only the highest quality domestic and imported 

toppings to manufacture our products, and we provide factory style 

extrusions and components with our Tops. We Dielectrically Heatseal our 

seams, primarily using film adhesives, but depending on the product’s 

design and the topping in which it is being made, thermo cement 

adhesives may also be used, as well as hot air welders; to obtain strong 

permanent bonds. The solution dyed polyester black thread that we use to 

sew our products offers the highest resistance to fading of any thread 

available. 

ROBBINS GLASS WINDOWS are made with the glass Heatsealed into 

vinyl and cloth toppings, in the manner Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and other 

OE convertible manufacturer’s original glass windows are manufactured. Robbins 

uses only first quality, full width toppings to make our Glass Window assemblies 

never seconds or small pieces sewn together. We add extra reinforcements for 

strength, and carefully finish our Glass Windows to provide quality, appearance and 

long service life. We offer a limited number of Clear Glass Windows (many have 

been discontinued), as well as Tinted, or Tinted with Heater/Defroster Glass 

Windows to offer owners the same style Glass Window that was used as original 

equipment on their convertible. While we cannot offer any warranty against 

breakage of Glass Windows since we have no control of whether convertible 

owners will follow operating instructions contained in Owner’s Manuals, we do offer 

a Three Year Warranty against failure of the lamination of our Glass, or 

workmanship of the Window Assembly. 

ALL GLASS WINDOWS HAVE BOTTOM COLOR TRIM TO MATCH TOP! 

We were awarded U.S. Patent 4,799,727 for our ROBBINS FLEX-HINGE ® 

extrusion we use in GL304 Folding Glass Window for 1964-70 Mustang 

and Cougar convertibles; as well as for non-original Glass Window 

installations for 1967-70 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird 

convertibles. This is a superior design to factory original style windows 

since our special hinge allows the glass to fold without stress as the top is 

lowered into the well. We duplicate factory designs in our Glass Rear 

Windows, and use all original style extrusions and components. 

INTRODUCTION 

ROBBINS CONVERTIBLE TOPS, TONNEAU COVERS, GLASS and 

PLASTIC WINDOWS, TOP BOOTS, HEADLINERS and other products for 

EUROPEAN, JAPANESE and AMERICAN convertibles. 

ROBBINS PLASTIC WINDOW ASSEMBLIES. We make our Plastic 

Window Assemblies using the same full width, first quality toppings we 

use for Tops and Glass Windows, never from seconds or small pieces 

sewn together. Robbins also uses Poly One (formerly Regalite) B.U.V. 

Ultralite, or new Ultrashield plastic sheets in our convertible Tops and in 

our Plastic Window Assemblies. These can be made with or without 

bottom color trim to match the Top, to duplicate the original style Plastic 

Window used in each Top, and we note which Plastic Windows are made 

with or without bottom color trim in our Catalog. 

We offer the Ultrashield sewn into Cloth Tops as an option. There is an 

additional charge to use Ultrashield that is detailed in our Price List. The 

Ultrashield offers greatly improved resistance to scratching and better 

protection against discoloration due to UV Light, and is available in Clear 

and Green Tint. 

ROBBINS TONNEAU COVERS AND TOP BOOTS protect your 

Top, seats and interior when the Top is down, and enhance the convertible 

driving experience. Our Tonneau Covers and Top Boots feature the same 

craftsmanship, attention to detail and commitment to quality found in our 

convertible Tops. Robbins Tonneau Covers are heavily reinforced, 

especially at points of stress, to insure long service life. Installation 

instructions are included with most Tonneau Covers. 

INNOVATION IS PART OF OUR HERITAGE. We were awarded 

U.S. Patent 4,684,419 for our Rainguard Deck Seam used in Tops for 

1980-93 VW Rabbit and Cabriolet convertibles. Most recently, Robbins 

has filed a patent application for our Partitioned Cable Sleeve, and we are 

considering filing additional patents for new designs and techniques. In 

1994 Robbins developed the first Tops with Glass Window for 1990-97 

Mazda Miata convertibles originally equipped with Tops with Plastic 

Windows. Robbins was awarded U.S. Patent 5,375,901 for our unique 

design for raising and lowering the Tinted Glass Window in our Tops for 

1990-97 Mazda Miata convertibles. 

QUALITY SYSTEM. We are committed to continuously improving our 

products and the level of service we offer our customers. Currently we are 

working to obtain ISO 9000/QS 9000/Quality System Certification which 

we expect to achieve in 2003. 

RECYCLED PACKAGING. All Robbins products are shipped in boxes 

made from 100% recycled cardboard, and our Glass Windows are packed 

in recycled bubblepack. We also recycle our Plastic Window scrap, as well 

as all cardboard cartons and wood pallets in which our raw materials and 

other items are shipped to us.

We use S-91 GERBERCUTTERS, which are the top of the line in textile cutting equipment. The computerized accuracy and heavy duty rack and 

pinion beam have made the S-91 the cutter of choice by leaders in the garment industry as well as aerospace manufacturers. This same CAD-

NOTES ON ORDERING GLASS OR PLASTIC WINDOWS 

Always order tops and glass or plastic windows with the same color 

backing. Even in convertibles equipped with Headliners, these do not 

always completely conceal the backing of Tops, Glass or Plastic Windows. 

Glass and Plastic Windows with Bottom Color Trim ordered in Robbins 

Sun-Fast colors with plain black backing will be made using a KV Black 

Single Texture Vinyl Assembly and Sun-Fast Bottom Color Trim to match

the outside color of the Top. The black backing color of the KV Black will 

be a close match to the inside black backing color of the Sun-Fast Top with 

which it will be installed. If the Glass Rear Window is ordered in Robbins 

Sun-Fast Cloth colors with tan backing, the entire Window Assembly 

MUST be made in Sun-Fast Cloth so that both the outside color and inside 

tan backing color will match exactly with the Sun-Fast Top with which it 

will be installed. (Glass Rear Windows can be ordered made entirely in 

Sun-Fast Cloth with black backing if an exact match to the black backing 

cloth of the Sun-Fast Top is required). Prices for Tops (and Plastic 

Windows with no bottom color trim to match top) ordered in Robbins Sun- 

Fast Cloth are the same if ordered in Black or Tan backing. 

When Glass or Plastic Windows (with or without bottom color trim to match Top) are 

ordered in Robbins Sun-Fast, Haartz Twillfast or German Cloth Toppings, (Black or Tan 

Backing), the entire Window Assembly must be made in cloth. This is to insure that both the 

outside color and the inside Black or Tan dobby backing color will match exactly with the 

Sun-Fast “G”, Twillfast or German Cloth Top with which it will be installed. 



This is a period of great change in Toppings, Headliners and other 

materials used in convertibles. Many new convertibles are being 

introduced and Automotive Design and Styling departments want to 

use new toppings and colors to obtain a fresh new look. Toppings and 

colors previously in use are then discontinued. Simply keeping abreast 

of all the changes in toppings and headliner materials is a challenge, 

and keeping these various toppings in stock is difficult. Topping 

suppliers such as Haartz impose large minimum yardage requirements 

to run special colors of PVC Vinyl Toppings, and prohibitively high

GLASS, PLASTIC WINDOWS, ZIPPERS AND FASTENERS 

Tempered Safety Glass: PPG is our major supplier of Tempered 

Safety Glass in clear, tinted and tinted with heater/defroster styles as 

originally supplied to convertible manufacturers. All Tempered Safety 

Glass used by Robbins meets all requirements of the National Traffic 

and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety 

Standard No. 205 (Glazing Materials CF MVSS 205). All Tempered 

Safety Glass we use contains “AS 2” and D.O.T. in the markings put 

on the glass by the manufacturer to show that the glass in full 

compliance with all Federal Safety Requirements. 

Plastic Windows: We use Polyone (formerly Regalite) B.U.V. 

Ultralite grade and Ultrashield as well as Solvay Draka premium 

grade press polished sheets in our Tops and Plastic Window 

Assemblies. B.U.V. Ultralite, Ultrashield and Solvay Draka sheets are 

D.O.T. approved and are marked AS6 to show they meet all 

applicable Federal Safety Standards. 

B.U.V. Ultralite offers good resistance to discoloration caused by 

exposure to UV Light and is the plastic window we use in the 

majority of our convertible Tops including Suzuki Samurai, Sidekick 

(Vitara) and Geo Tracker; Isuzu Amigo Tops and Plastic Window 

Assemblies. The most widely used Windows are clear, but Green or 

Bronze tint Ultralite B.U.V. Plastic Windows are available in smaller 

sizes only. (Tops and Plastic Window Assemblies which require lager 

size plastic sheets can be made only in clear). The Green Tint is 

virtually identical to the green tinted plastic windows used originally 

by BMW for 3 Series and Z 3 Roadster convertible Tops. An 

additional charge is required to use Green or Bronze Tint Plastic 

Windows in products in which clear Plastic Windows were used 

originally. We will add a “G” for items ordered with Green Tinted 

Plastic Windows to the part numbers for all items originally made 

with standard clear Plastic Windows. An example would be 2207AG 

SF BKB for a 1969-On Triumph TR-6 with Green Plastic Windows, as 

shown in a photograph on the back cover of our Catalog. 

Ultrashield: The Ultrashield is now available in Clear and Green 

Tint and is .040 gauge. The Ultrashield offers resistance to 

scratching never before achieved in plastic windows, as well as 

improved resistance to discoloration due to long term exposure to 

UV Light. These are the major causes of loss of visibility in current 

plastic rear windows, along with environmental factors such as jet 

fuel residue, smog and other airborne contaminants. Polyone has put 

years of research into developing Ultrashield, and we are pleased to 

be able to offer our products made using this superior plastic 

window. Ultrashield can only be sewn (not Heatsealed)) into Tops 

and Plastic Windows, at an additional charge as shown in our Net 

Price List. We continue to work on finding methods to Heatseal 

Ultrashield into our products as well. Ultrashield is available in 24” x 

54” size only, and cannot be used in products that require a larger 

size plastic window. 

Zippers: We primarily use #8 and #10 nylon zippers in our 

Convertible Tops, Glass and Plastic Windows. We still make brass 

zippers available for some applications, but an additional charge is 

required. (Brass zippers cannot be used in most of our products). 

Our nylon, brass coil and separating zippers are supplied by YKK 

and Talon. Robbins has unique zippers made for our exclusive use. 

Our computer designed heat set, scoop counted Single Ring Pull 

Zipper we use in most of our 1990-On Miata Tops with Glass or 

Plastic Windows, assures zip-in replacement of Tops and Glass or 

Plastic Window Assemblies. 

Fasteners and Hardware: We supply Tenax, Durable, Lift-The- 

Dot and all other hardware necessary to install our products. Our 

sources, both domestic and overseas, produce top quality chrome 

and nickel plated brass, black anodized, or black enameled fasteners 

and other hardware items. 

Top Pads: We offer both Universal Tapered Top Pads and 

Factory Original Style replacement pads for selected models. 

Factory Original Style Top Pads are listed in the Catalog 

beneath the convertible Tops with which they fit.

Original and Special Bindings for Convertible Tops 

We duplicate the factory original style cloth or vinyl binding in 

manufacturing our convertible Tops. Single Fold Binding, Double Fold 

Binding, Hand-Rolled Binding and Folded Edge (No Binding) are the four 

styles of original bindings we use to finish our products. Stitching used to 

attach the binding can be seen in Single Fold and Double Fold Bindings, 

and can be seen in some Tops with folded edges. Stitching cannot be seen 

in Tops finished with Hand-Rolled Binding. 

Examples of styles of bindings used in different Tops are: 

Single Fold Cloth or Vinyl Binding: 2550 Ford of Europe Escort and 

2062 VW Cabriolet. 

Double Fold Cloth or Vinyl Binding: Chrysler, Fiat, Ford, General 

Motors (all except Allante), MG, Saab and many others. Double Fold is by 

far the most common style of binding. 

Hand-Rolled Cloth or Vinyl Binding: An “R” will be added to the end of 

the item number to designate that the item has been ordered with Hand- 

Rolled Binding, such as 2040R GR BKT; or if Hand-Rolled in vinyl, an “RV” 

will be added such as 2080RV SF BKB. An additional charge is required 

for Hand-Rolled Cloth or Vinyl Binding to the Cloth or Vinyl list price for 

most items. 

Non-Original Cloth Bindings: Owners of convertibles originally 

equipped with Tops made in vinyl may wish to upgrade and order a Top 

made in a Cloth Topping. To simplify ordering we will make all nonoriginal 

Cloth Tops with matching Cloth Binding. Cloth Binding is

Binding as original. 

More Than One Style of Binding: Some Tops even use more than one 

style of Binding, such as 1990-97 Miata Tops which use both Single Fold 

and Double Fold Bindings. 

Original Bindings that do not match Toppings in which Tops are 

made: We make our 1955-1976 Chevrolet, Cadillac, Corvette, Buick, 

Oldsmobile and Pontiac Tops with original style Crush Grain Binding when 

Tops are made in KV Pinpoint Grain Vinyl. Alfa Romeo and Ferrari Tops 

made in Cloth Toppings which are finished with Hand-Rolled Vinyl Binding 

are additional examples of original style bindings which do not match 

Toppings.

To measure: 

1.Locate the bottom center of the existing Glass or Plastic 

Rear Window where it meets the inner edge of the belt molding. 

2.Place a yardstick or metal ruler flat against the Rear Window so 

one end rests against the inner edge of the rear finish molding, and 

measure to the middle of the rear bow. 

3.The Bow Height measurement you have taken should not vary 

more than 1/2 inch from the figure listed in our Catalog. If the 

measurement is off more than 1/2 inch, reset the rear bow to the correct 

height before installation or our top and rear window will not fit correctly.

This series of diagrams is presented for the purpose of helping our customers better understand the terminology used to describe 

Convertible Tops, Glass and Plastic Rear Windows, Top Frames, etc. These diagrams are universal, and while no one diagram will show full 

details of a specific top, almost any part of any top will appear in one of these diagrams. 



All Robbins Convertible Tops, Tonneau Covers, Top Boots, Glass and 

Plastic Windows, Headliners, and other products are guaranteed to be free 

of defects in materials and workmanship at the time of shipment from our 

plant. We offer a PRO-RATED warranty for our products based on 

the type of topping in which it is made and the length of time our 

product has been installed. We guarantee our workmanship, and offer 

protection against failure in toppings such as cracking, delamination, 

extreme color fading or discoloration; (except for lighter colors of GR 

German Cloth toppings for which no warranty is available) within the 

warranty periods listed below. At our option, Robbins may repair or replace 

products in which a defect is found. 

Our PRO-RATED warranty does not cover damage caused to our products 

by failure to properly operate a convertible top and glass or Plastic Window 

by not following the procedures outlined in your Owner’s Manual, or any 

damage caused by abuse whether accidental or intentional, or damage 

which may occur during installation or caused by use of improper cleaners 

or cleaning techniques. Our PRO-RATED Warranty furthermore does not 

cover damage to our products caused by top frame components or design 

of tops, top frames, body or interior components, etc., by convertible 

manufacturers. Numerous caution notes and disclaimers have been added 

to our Catalog for our products for convertibles with known top or top 

frame problems. 

Our PRO-RATED warranty is based on the warranties offered by auto 

manufacturers for new convertibles. 3 Years for Tops and Glass Windows 

(depending on the topping in which it is made, as shown below). We stand 

behind our products, and while we must protect ourselves against abuse 

and negligence, Customer Satisfaction is always the number one priority of 

our Warranty Policy. 

Glass Windows 

There is no warranty against breakage of Glass Windows since we have no 

control over the use and treatment of Glass Windows during or after 

installation. We do however offer a 3 Year Warranty against failure of the 

bond of the sport topping to the glass, or failure in the topping that would 

cause the Glass Window not to operate correctly. Folding Glass Windows 

which use our Flex-Hinge , U.S. Patent 4,799,727; as well as our Tops with 

Glass Window and Glass Window Upgrades for Mazda MX-5 Miata, are 

also guaranteed for three years from date of installation.

We offer a one year Warranty for these products regardless of the sport 

topping or other material in which they are made. 

WARNING 

Damage caused by failure to properly operate a Convertible Top, Glass 

Window, Tonneau Cover, etc., is the sole responsibility of the purchaser. 

Most damage of this nature occurs when convertibles are loaned to friends 

or relatives who are unfamiliar with convertibles. An example of this type of 

damage is when late MGB Tops tear because the fasteners were not 

released before the top was lowered. The most common cause of Glass 

Window breakage is obstruction of the glass during raising or lowering. 

Before lowering any Convertible Top, make sure the storage compartment 

is free of any foreign object (such as beach towels, school books, toys, 

etc.) In convertibles with soft wells (pouch type storage compartments), be 

sure nothing is underlying the well, and that everything in the trunk is 

secured. (Spare tires, tools, cartons, etc., can shift and cause problems the 

next time the top is lowered or raised). 

Other causes of glass breakage can be metal top frame components which 

are out of alignment. If you notice any irregular movement, stiffness or 

other problem in lowering or raising your top, immediately take your 

convertible top to an Automotive Trim and Upholstery Shop, or if your 

convertible top is still under warranty, to the dealer to have the frame 

mechanism inspected. One last cause of Glass Window breakage in late 

model convertibles is the poor design of rear seats. Over time, in some 

newer convertibles, the rear seat backrest can be bent out of shape, and as 

a result, Glass Windows can snag on the rear seat backrest and shatter 

when the top is raised or lowered. 

We strongly recommend that you always watch carefully as you 

raise and lower your convertible top and glass rear window to 

avoid experiencing the sorts of problems described above. 



Knots and Minor Blemishes, Direction of Weave in Cloth 

Toppings: Small knots and blemishes can occur in all cloth toppings due 

to limitations in the capabilities of the looms which weave the cloth. 

We cut our Tops to obtain optimum stretch for decks, quarters and 

reinforcements to insure the best fit and long service life. However, when 

we cut our cloth toppings with directional weaves such as twill weave used 

in our Sun-Fast “G”, Twillfast, or German Toppings, decks and quarters 

may have weaves cut in different directions to obtain the best fit for our 

products. 

Normal Color Fading and Shrinkage: All sport toppings, vinyl and 

cloth, will experience some color fading and normal shrinkage over time. 

Robbins cannot be held responsible for this unavoidable “aging” process. 

Damage Caused by Worn or Defective Frames, or Design of Top 

Frames and Tops by Convertible Manufacturers: Robbins is not 

responsible for damage to our products, or to the convertibles on which 

they are installed, caused by worn or defective top frames; or by defective 

or missing straps, pads or other components. 

Robbins furthermore is not responsible for damage caused by the auto 

manufacturer’s design of convertible tops or top frames. 1990-94 Capri, 

1987-94 Cadillac Allante, 1987-95 Chrysler LeBaron, 1987-95 BMW 3 

Series, 1987-On Camaro and 1987-On Saab convertibles for example, 

have problems in the design of the top, or top frame that can cause 

convertible tops and headliners to be pinched, cut, or develop holes as a 

result of raising and lowering the top over time. Other models such as 

1989-94 Isuzu Amigo and 1990-94 Capri convertibles developed water 

leakage problems which are inherent in the basic design, and for which we 

cannot be held responsible. 

Damage Caused by Failure to Install Side Cables or Other 

Components; or Improper Installation: Robbins cannot be held 

responsible for damage to our products, or to top frame, interior, body, or 

other area of the convertible, caused by failure to use, correctly install or 

replace side or rear cables, weatherseals, rain rails, top or quarter pads, 

fasteners or other components installed as original equipment by the 

convertible manufacturer. Robbins furthermore is not responsible for any 

damage to our products or the convertible on which they are installed 

caused by use of incorrect tools or improper installation procedures. 

Improper Cleaning or Customer Abuse: Any damage to our products 

caused by use of improper cleaning techniques, or use of inappropriate 

cleaning solutions or solvents; or damage caused by Customer abuse, 

whether accidental or intentional, is the sole responsibility of the purchaser. 

Should a defect be found in one of our products, any warranty 

adjustment made will be PRO-RATED BASED ON THE LENGTH OF TIME 

OUR PRODUCT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. All requests for warranty 

claims by convertible owners must be directed to the automotive 

trim and upholstery shop, or automotive specialist where our 

product(s) were installed and/or purchased. The shop will, in turn, 

contact our distributor from whom our product was ordered, who will 

forward the request to us. Owners need to authorize Trim Shops to 

request a replacement product on their behalf, and shops must return 

products in which a defect has been reported to Robbins before credit 

can be issued. 

EXCLUSIONS FROM WARRANTY COVERAGE 

OWNER WARRANTY CLAIM PROCEDURES 

Plastic Windows: We offer no warranty for plastic rear windows because 

no clear, flexible plastic exists that can stand up to the harmful effect of UV 

light, and the atmospheric chemicals that are found in smog, smoke, dust, 

fog etc. However, frequent cleaning will prolong the service life of Plastic 

Windows. Consult our Tradition of Excellence Brochure for tips to prolong 

service life. 

Zippers, Fasteners and Other Hardware: Always treat zippers and 

fasteners with care since No Warranty is available from zipper or fastener 

manufacturers. For all convertible tops with zipper windows, always 

UNLATCH TOP AT FRONT BEFORE UNZIPPING, OR ZIPPING WINDOW 

CLOSED, EXCEPT for 1990-97 Mazda Miata Glass Zipper Window Tops 

(2912, 2913, 2914, 2915, zipper), and Glass Window Upgrades (TN212H 

and TN213). We can guarantee only that zippers and fasteners were free of 

defects at the time of shipment since we have no control over their use 

during or after installation. 

Thread: Threads currently available do not offer the colorfastness of 

vinyls, Robbins Sun-Fast, Sun-Fast “G”, or Haartz Twillfast cloth sport 

toppings and will fade over time. Our black thread offers the highest 

resistance to fading of any black thread currently in use, but may fade 

slightly over time. 

Alteration or Modification of Our Products: Any alteration, 

modification, substitution of components, etc., that in any manner alters 

the appearance or the way in which our products function, automatically 

voids our Warranty Protection. 

Disclaimer: We cannot be held responsible for damage caused by Acts of 

God such as floods, hail storms, earthquakes, etc. There are not additional 

warranties or guarantees expressed or implied, beyond what is described 

above. We furthermore do not authorize others to make any claims of 

merchantability, warranty, fitness, etc., of our products other than what is 

described above. 

Additional Terms and Conditions 

Robbins Limited Warranty applies to the original purchaser of our 

products. Any sale or transfer of the vehicle to another party may void our 

warranty. For the Limited Warranty to be valid, the warranty card in the box 

should be signed and returned to us. A copy of the retail invoice from the 

automotive trim and upholstery shop that installed our product on your 

vehicle, showing that our product was installed, should be submitted with 

any warranty claim. In the event the warranty card has been lost, your retail 

invoice can be used to substantiate your claim. 

Our policy is that any warranty adjustment made will be pro-rated based on 

the length of time our product was installed. Products in which a defect is 

found will be repaired or replaced at our option. While this is not required 

in all instances, Robbins reserves the right to insist that items for which 

warranty claims have been made be returned to us for inspection before 

any adjustment is made. A copy of the retail invoice from the automotive 

trim and upholstery shop that installed our product(s) on your convertible, 

or invoice from the automotive specialist where it was purchased, clearly 

stating the use of our Robbins products, should be submitted with any 

warranty claim. We stand behind our products, and Customer satisfaction 

is always the number one priority of our Warranty Policy. 



1. Should a defect be found in one of our products, contact the jobber from 

whom our product was purchased and provide the part number, material, 

color, date of installation, Jobber invoice number and date, and reason for 

request for credit. As a rule TRIM SHOPS MUST RETURN PRODUCTS IN 

WHICH A DEFECT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO ROBBINS FOR INSPECTION 

BEFORE CREDIT CAN BE ISSUED, although exceptions can be made for 

international customers or due to unique circumstances. 

2. Your jobber will contact Robbins and provide a Customer Request 

Form containing our part number, material type and color; Bar 

Code Label Information, Jobber invoice number, the name, 

address, and telephone number of your shop, and reason for 

request for credit. Robbins will issue a Return Authorization Number to 

your jobber to pass on to your shop. In the 48 continental states in the 

U.S.A., Robbins will send a U.P.S. Call Tag to pick up our product. 

The Return Authorization Number must be written on the box and 

on all related paperwork sent with returned item. 

3. To obtain credit, Trimmers need to provide a copy of the invoice 

from the jobber from whom they purchased our product, plus a 

copy of the retail invoice to the convertible owner showing the 

date our product was installed. Failure to provide an invoice copy can 

result in no credit being issued. Photographs may be required to 

substantiate requests for R.A. numbers and issuing of credit. 

4. Our Product must be folded carefully and returned in the same manner it 

was received, and in the original box. Special attention must be given to 

tops with plastic windows, and plastic rear window assemblies. Always 

pack tissue around window and fold without creasing window. 

INSTALLATION: We recommend all Robbins Convertible Tops, Tonneau 

Covers, Top Boots, Glass and Plastic Rear Windows and Headliners be 

installed only at automotive trim and upholstery shops. 

ESTIMATED INSTALLATION LABOR TIMES: The estimated labor times 

to install our products we show in our Catalog are strictly for removing an

TRIM SHOP RETURN PROCEDURES 

INSTALLATION OF OUR PRODUCTS 

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

5. All fasteners, parts and other hardware must be returned with our 

product. 

6. Glass Windows must be carefully packed with bubble pack and returned 

in original box to avoid breakage during shipment. 

7. All returned products will be inspected before any credit is issued; and 

all returned products may be subject to a minimum 10% restocking 

charge. 

8. Items with less than 10 sales per year, or made in non-original 

colors and toppings, are non-returnable. 

9. Items which are past their warranty period are non-returnable. 

10. Manufacturer reserves the right to void all warranties unless product is 

received in original box, and unless both Jobber invoices and retail 

customer invoice showing installation date are submitted. 

11. Robbins will not accept delivery of items shipped to us without a 

Return Authorization Number, or shipped to us C.O.D. 

Labor Credit: Full labor credit will be issued for warranty claims filed 

within the first twelve months after installation of our products, after the 

item has been returned to Robbins for inspection to confirm that the 

warranty claim is valid. One-half labor credit will be issued for warranty 

claims filed in the second year after installation, and no labor credit will be 

issued in the third year after installation. All labor credits will be issued to 

our distributors who, in turn, will pass these credits on to the automotive 

trim and upholstery shop performing the warranty replacement. All labor 

credits issued will be in the form of products, usually a convertible top 

made in vinyl of our choice.

All invoices are payable in U.S. Dollars. Upon approval of credit, our 

normal (but not limited to) Terms of Sales are that invoices are due and 

payable 30 days from Invoice Date. 

Any disagreements which may arise regarding Robbins products, 

purchasing of products from Robbins, or arrangements for resale of 

Robbins products, are subject to Laws of the State of California and the 

United States of America. Any litigation or arbitration that may ensue will 

be conducted in Ventura County California, U.S.A. 




� Care of Glass Windows: Glass Windows should be cleaned with 

water based glass cleaners only. Please be extremely careful when 

cleaning Heater/Defroster glass windows not to scratch the defroster 

lines or to break the power source connector wire. Cleaner should 

never be allowed to drip into seams or heat seals. 

� Care of Plastic Windows: Plastic windows in convertible Tops 

should be cleaned frequently. Be sure to hose or blow off loose dirt 

particles from surface first, and then use either plain water or mild soap 

and water solution. Apply with a soft cloth or tissue to gently clean 

window. Always clean in a side to side or a top to bottom motion, 

NEVER in a circular motion, (cleaning in a circular motion can 

damage plastic windows). There are also several good plastic cleaners 

available such as “ Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze Formula 17”. Never use 

harsh brushes or abrasives when cleaning plastic windows. 

ALWAYS Leave a new top and glass or plastic window in the up position for 

a minimum of 24 hours after our products were installed. As 

convertible top frames age, links and joints wear and top frames 

do not have the same alignment as when convertibles were new. 

Leaving convertible tops and glass windows in the up position 

after installation allows them time to become seasoned to the top 

frame. 

ALWAYS Try to leave your top in the up position overnight, or whenever else 

you will not be driving. This will help retain the original shape of 

your top, resist shrinkage, and avoid crease marks where the top 

folds when in the down position. This will help as well to 

prolong the service life of plastic windows. 

ALWAYS Follow the instructions in your Owner’s Manual for 

lowering and raising your Top except when specified 

otherwise in Robbins literature. Always keep the top well 

area free of objects, especially if a Glass Window is 

installed with your Top. Even harmless looking objects such 

as beach towels can cause glass windows to break. Objects in 

your top well can further cause unnecessary wear and stress on 

top frames, plus cause damage to your top and to plastic windows 

as well. 

ALWAYS Unlatch Top at front before unzipping, or zipping window 

closed before latching for any convertible Top, Glass or 

Plastic Window, unless different instructions appear in 

your owners manual or product brochure. 

ALWAYS Try and keep your Top, Tonneau Cover, Glass or Plastic 

Window, etc., clean. 

DO NOT Raise or lower convertible tops, glass or plastic window 

assemblies when the temperature is below 40 degrees (5 degrees 

Centigrade) since this can cause damage to the topping, plastic 

windows and other components. 

DO NOT Lower your convertible top, glass or plastic window when the top 

is wet, to avoid discoloration or other damage to the topping or 

inside backing. 

DO NOT Store away wet top boots or tonneau covers, to avoid discoloration 

and shrinking that can cause these products to no longer fit. 

CARE AND CLEANING 

� Use of Vinyl Preservatives 

Please note we do not recommend use of penetrating vinyl 

preservatives, conditioners or dressings on Tops, Tonneau Covers, etc. 

� Cleaning Tops, Tonneau Covers and Other Products Made in 

Cloth or Vinyl Toppings: We strongly recommend hand washing 

convertible tops and other products made in Cloth sport Toppings. 

Tops and other products made in Vinyl toppings can be cleaned using 

Vinyl Cleaners such as Malco which are widely available. While Car 

Washes generally will not harm convertible Tops and Glass or Plastic 

Windows made in Cloth or Vinyl Toppings, never allow a car wash 

to apply spray wax to your convertible Top. 

To hand wash our products, use Ivory or other mild soap flakes in a 

bucket of lukewarm water. In hard water areas add Calgon (not to be 

confused with dishwasher detergent) or other water softener until the 

water feels slippery. 

ALWAYS Wash Tops, Tonneau Covers, etc. in the shade, never in direct sun. 

ALWAYS Wash entire Top, Tonneau Cover, etc. Never spot clean to avoid 

rings or bright spots. 

ALWAYS Wet entire car before sudsing Top. Use sponge or soft bristle 

brush to apply suds. Do not use a chamois or cloth since these 

will leave lint on Cloth Tops. 

ALWAYS Rinse well with hose making sure to remove all traces of soap. 

Wipe off excess water with sponge. Please be careful to hose 

down entire car to prevent soap from streaking paint. 

ALWAYS Install Tonneau Covers and Top Boots after cleaning while still 

damp to preserve fit and shape. 

ALWAYS Try to move Tops into direct sun after cleaning and thorough 

rinsing to dry. Chamois all excess water off body of car. 

DO NOT Use detergents, bleaches, harsh cleaners, commercial cleaners 

or abrasives. 

DO NOT Use dry-cleaning solvents, etc. 

DO NOT Use hot water. 

DO NOT Cover convertible tops when wet or damp. This can lead to 

mildew growth and in extreme cases can cause discoloration or 

rotting of toppings to occur.

The "A" and "B" measurements determine which top to order, since A.S.C. and General Motors made many changes to the top and top frame, and no 

records are available to us to show which top fits which year Camaro or Firebird. 

CAUTION: This system is approximate, and there is no guarantee that taking these measurements will insure that tops fit correctly. Please 

carefully lay our top over the old top BEFORE installing our top. Tops that do not appear to fit can be exchanged for another Robbins Camaro Top if 

returned in original box and if there is no damage to the Top or Plastic Window, and these are not special order non-returnable tops. 

NOTE: Exercise extreme caution when installing flap at lower rear rail, not to place rail too near topstitch. All 7203,7204,7205,7206 Tops made with 

elastic straps at rear quarters, and if the old top on the car did not have these elastic straps, simply cut them off and complete the installation. 

DISCLAIMER: A.S.C. and General Motors made many changes to the Camaro convertible top and top frame. Some tops have elastic straps at the rear 

quarters, and others do not. The rear bow position was changed several times so we cannot guarantee that the rear seam in our top will line up over 

the rear bow of Camaro convertibles. No records are available to us as to when these changes were made. Top frame design problems can cause 

premature wear, cuts and holes in the rear quarters; and the lower rail can cut the topstitch at rear quarters. Robbins cannot be held responsible
