Look Out!Students on the Fast TrackBy Lisa MurrayThe CommunicatorStephen Keimig ’16 is a force to be reckoned with! This freshman fromRutland, Mass., has plunged into campus life with gusto – he evenwrote a blog for the Pierce Arrow newspaper and helped cover theRepublican National convention as a Fitzwater Scholar before steppingfoot on campus.Stephen is a Mass Communications majorwith a double concentration in Journalismand Media Production; he has a double minorin Public Relations and Advertising. In hisfirst semester, he earned a place at the PierceArrow as senior reporter, helped film theshow “Roommates” on campus for Channel25 (Franklin Pierce’s cable station), wrote for The Exchange, and startedhis own TV show, “Cloudy with a Chance of Steve,” which is filmed at theFitzwater TV studio in front of a live audience. Stephen hosts interviews,writes monologues and comedic sketches, and designs innovativegames for the 30-minute show, which he hopes will run throughout hisfour years at Franklin Pierce. “It’s a combination of all the things I love,”says Stephen, “and it teaches me a lot about the professional world oftelevision production.”If you’re wondering if Stephen has time left for anything else, put thosefears to rest! He also works for admissions, taught sailing lessons fromthe boathouse in the fall, is a diligent student., and helped cover thePresidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. with other FitzwaterScholars. Stephen credits his family in “helping me to think critically andgive back to others. They always encouraged me to try everything that Iwanted to do.”Stephen decided to attend Franklin Pierce because he was “struck by thefriendliness and involvement of the faculty and the endless opportunitiesat the Fitzwater Center” when he came for a visit. He was also impressedwith the fact that students can take classes of choice early on at FranklinPierce and can “dive in and get fully immersed.” Dive in he has! This upcoming professionalreflects on the summer internship she had in Denver leadinginto her senior year:“This past summer I completedan advanced internship withSony Music. I directly workedfor 'Stache Media, a fullservicemarketing and brandpartnership agency, whichspecializes in music withinSony Music. My summer wasfocused specifically on country and Americana music.I was directly involved with tour, online, lifestyle, andretail/partnership marketing. I developed tailoredmarketing plans under grassroots promotion, and Iplanned events catered to the genre for pre-releaselistening parties. Throughout the summer I was able towork with 12 different artists.Having the chance to work for a major recording labelduring my senior year in college was such a wonderfulopportunity and has left me with more defined careergoals. I have had the opportunity to increase my skillswithin the marketing field by being able to apply mylearning from the classroom to real-world experience.While the education that I am receiving at FranklinPierce is vital, the education that you can receivefrom real-world experience cannot be surpassed. Thisinternship made me realize that marketing is definitelythe field for me.
