They have value-addedfeatures that ensure compliance with the relevant specifications; they are reliable, quiet, efficient and have a long service life:Low NoiseVon Roll Elco Transformers’ power transformers areengineered for low noise levels. Transformers largerthan 50 MVA operate at noise levels of at least 10 dBbelow ANSI and it is possible to achieve levels of46–50 dB for transformers below 50 MVA.Exclusive to Von Roll Elco Transformers:Hot Spray GalvanizingVon Roll Elco Transformers introduced hot spraygalvanizing to protect tanks and covers againstcorrosion in one of the harshest climatic regions ofthe world – the Dead Sea, an area 1,300 feet belowsea level that experiences high temperatures, highair pressure and many airborne salts. Special ShotBlast ing Equipment assures a corrosion-free surfaceprior to zinc coating and painting.Vertical WindingThe main winding operations for power transformers are performed on verticalwinding machines in sealed, dust-free chambers. The coil is manufactured in itsnatural working position to achieve more uniform tension, which assures asuperior quality winding process.Drying, Coil Dimensioning and Oil FillingVon Roll Elco Transformers achieves identical coil height in its transformers througha special drying and compression process. The coils are dried under vacuum ina circular oven and pressed to the exact specified size. In a second stage,each phase coil block assembly is dried and pressed again to assure absoluteaccuracy. Each core and coil undergoes a vapor phase process in the oven.Exclusive to Von Roll Elco Transformers:During the final drying, the moisture content of the transformer is reduced to lessthan 0.3%. This takes place at 110º C in a vacuum of less than 0.07 millibar. Whilestill in the oven, and under vacuum, the tank is filled with oil; the unit is flushedand then new filtered oil is introduced. Finally, the transformer is removed fromthe oven and the oil is processed by the oil treatment plant.

The software permits the verification of allcalculations for mechanical and electrical stresses,such as short circuits, lightning and switchingimpulses, over-voltage, hot spots (magnetic fielddistribution in winding and metal parts), electricalfield calculations and plots, noise levels, overloadcapacity and loss of insulation life.Modern CAD workstations using Medusa andPRO-E software, which is based on parametric programsdeveloped by Von Roll Elco Transformers,help engineers to translate electrical designs intodetailed transformer blueprints.We possess advanced expertise in “Low noise”transformer technology. Von Roll Elco Transformersseeks to differentiate its products and gain competitiveadvantage by engineering transformers ofthe highest possible quality. The transformers areengineered to operate at low noise levels.Due to special design and production characteristics,noise levels of at least 10 dB below ANSIstandard are achieved in all transformers largerthan 50 MVA, and levels of 46 to 50 dB (groundnoise intensity) can be achieved for transformersup to 50 MVA.

Thorough Testing Guarantees Highest QualityThe Von Roll Elco Transformers high voltagelaboratory extends over 1600 sq m (15,000 sq ft)and has a height of 21m (69 ft).
