Materials & Maintenance
Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel levers and pull handles are made of chrome nickel
steel. Characteristics such as longevity and corrosion resistance, have made
stainless steel a popular material in architectural design. Stainless Steel is
rustproof because the alloy components of chrome and nickel develop an
invisible passive film layer, which also gives excellent resistance to abrasion.
If Stainless Steel fittings do appear to show signs of rust, or greasy and
oily soiling, it can be removed with a household detergent which the
manufacturer states is suitable for stainless steel.
Nylon
Nylon levers and pull handles are manufactured to exacting
standards from polyamide nylon. This gives good tensile properties,
impact strength and wear resistance. Nylon gives good antistatic
behaviour and resistance to corrosion and chemicals. Soiling can be
removed with water and/or propriety detergents.
Aluminium
Aluminium levers and pull handles are produced using high
quality, corrosion resistant alloys. The surface finish of HOPPE aluminium
products is by anodising, which gives certain protection against
atmospheric corrosion, perspiration from hands, and light scratching.
Aluminium does not need special care because the oxide film protects the
surface. Dirt spots can be removed with a soft cloth and water.
Brass
Brass fittings are produced using high quality brass. Lever
furniture is laquered using the electro-phoretic process, providing an
excellent resistance to solvents and chemicals. Nonetheless, the use of
aggressive cleaning agents should be avoided. Damage to the surface by
mechanical action (e.g. by keys) can also cause corrosion. No special care
is needed in everyday use; however any dirt can be removed with a soft
cloth and water.
Tip: HOPPE brass pull handles are waxed and not lacquered. Therefore a
natural patina (darkened brass) does develop after a while. Should this be
undesirable the handles can be periodically polished.
