Accommodation typesYou can choose between accommodation that isspecifically for students (1) or private rental (2) whereyou may still live with other students but it is in aprivate property.1. Dedicated student accommodationStudent hostelsStudent hostels are great places to meet people and create afriendship network from your new home. Hostels provide fullyfurnished single rooms with access to shared facilities such as akitchen, bathroom and recreational areas. Some also offer doubleand triple rooms. Most are located in suburbs, rather than theAdelaide CBD.Rent approximately $130 – $230 per weekStudent apartmentsAdelaide has a wide range of student apartments on offer inthe city centre and very close to the Magill and Mawson Lakescampuses, all within close range of public transport. You canchoose between studio and one-bedroom apartments or shareapartments. Most are recently built and fully furnished, offering aprivate bedroom with a shared kitchen, living area and bathroom.Students negotiate sharing of household chores and expenses withfellow tenants.Rent approximately $150 – $350 per weekResidential collegesResidential colleges are a convenient option because the facilitiesgenerally include meals and a fully furnished single bedroomcomplete with a bed, desk, chair, telephone and wardrobe.Colleges often provide access to computers, the internet, a library,music rooms, and sporting and laundry facilities. Some even offeraccess to tutors. All of the residential colleges are located in NorthAdelaide, a 10 minute walk from the city. Applications six months inadvance are advised.Rent approximately $285 – $410 per weekNon-profit housingSeveral not-for-profit and subsidised housing options are open tostudents. Eligibility criteria and waiting lists may apply. Private rentalRenting privately can be a very affordable housing option if you areprepared to shop around and share with others.In this option you will either rent a whole property (house,apartment, etc) or join a share house with your own private roomand shared living areas. Chores and expenses are negotiatedbetween fellow tenants.Rent approximately $100 – $250 per weekWhere to search: The University’s Rental Database is designed tomake it easier for enrolled students to find housing. Your usernameand password (which you receive upon enrolment) is all you need tologon and search through vacancies.unisa.edu.au/accommodation/rentalOther places to look for vacancies are real estate agencies andnewspaper classifieds.Note: The University does not inspect private student rentalproperties (including those on the Rental Database). It is veryimportant that you inspect the accommodation carefully, satisfyyourself of its suitability and meet future housemates before payingmoney or agreeing to a lease.Homestay/private boardStudents can live in a home with a family, couple or single person.Costs include your own furnished room, meals and utilities.
