8 teflon lined valvesTeflonlined valvesTeflon’s particular properties have been used for many years toprovide corrosion protection for valves, pumps and pipe fittings.First developed by DUPONT of America in 1938, with its first use inindustry in 1949.Teflon lined valves have the Teflon either as a loose insert inside thevalve or it is moulded (with temperature and pressure) to the wettedparts inside the valve.Teflon is a superior corrosion resistant material. It cannot bedissolved by alkaline, and has varying resistance to all types of acidsand traditionally destructive chemicals. With the structure strengthand pressure capability provided by the valve body material, liningor moulding with Teflon provides the answer for most Chemicalapplications at acceptable cost.Besides its Chemical resistance an additional benefit of Teflon is itslow coefficient of friction which provides ease of operation betweensliding surfaces.With the speedy development of the use of Teflon and the everincreasing costs of metal alloys, more and more Teflon lined valvesare used in industry today.The Premchem range of Teflon lined valves has been developed overa period of many years resulting in the most comprehensive rangeavailable with superior quality. installation and maintenance9Installationand maintenanceTeflon lined valves and pipelines have inherent propertieswhich must be considered when installing and maintainingthese products.1. Take care to protect all PTFE- lined flange faces duringstorage and installation.2. If there is any leakage at high temperature from a valve,ensure that temperature source is removed and temperatureis ambient before doing any removal or maintenance.3. High temperature welding close to Teflon-lined valves isstrictly prohibited.4. Flange bolts must be tightened in a diametrically opposedfashion with proper torque wrench to ensure even tighteningof the flange faces. If there is a leakage on the flange surface,loosen the nut closest to it by one turn and then retighten.If this does not solve the problem, check for damage on thePTFE flange surfaces. Repair damage with sandpaper oremery cloth and re-install.5. Valves should be stored in a dry and ventilated room, andvalves should not be stacked.6. When Teflon lined valves need to be stored for a long time,keep the sealing faces slightly opened to ensure no long termdeformity of the seals.7. Valves have been designed to open and close with theprovided levers or gearboxes. Excessive force required tooperate the valves normally means there is some foreignparticle or damage preventing normal opening or closing.8. Ensure that the valves are installed with flow in the directionas indicated with the arrow on the body of the valve.9. Any repaired valve should be properly inspected beforere-installing.A P.O. The other benefit ofButterfly valves is that the flow curve is reasonably linear so thatthey can be used for modulating control as long as differentialpressure is limited. Good design Butterfly valves also seal offwith zero leakage.Characteristics of The Premchem range ofFluoroplastic lined Butterfly valves:• The basic type is the Concentric design with either fully linedbody and disc or fully lined body and Stainless Steel disc.• Butterfly valves are available in wafer or double flangedpattern• The seal design on the stem has been developed overmany years and ensures no leak path past the stem.
