Alpha Gold D of E GroupBravo Gold D of E GroupThe evening of Friday 23 November was a fantastic event for the Gold D of E participants who delivered some expertlyprepared presentations on their Dartmoor expedition which they completed in October half term.Bravo group, which consisted of Cameron Rice, Dan Brooks and Paul Witney delivered a presentation about how theyhad applied leadership roles to their team members. This was based on past studies of leadership styles as well as theirown past experiences of roles requiring a leader when on expedition. They gained these experiences from havingcompleted both Bronze and Silver expeditions previously. The presentation was amusing and honest. It demonstratedhow the team became aware of their individual strengths and weaknesses, then supported each other to develop theirleadership skills.Alpha group, consisting of Naomi Littleboy, Ben Bowen, Ben MacKenzie and Will Barby then delivered a presentationwhich gave details of the physical and human features of Dartmoor which they experienced on their expedition. Theirpresentation was thoroughly researched, interesting and informative. It included the history of popular features such asthe Tors, Standing Stones, Stone Circles and Clapper Bridge. Each group ended with some reflective comments to show how much they had enjoyed the experience, which aspectsthey found most challenging and what they have learned from the experience, including how this may help them in futurelife. All participants agreed that it was an exciting and challenging experience that will stay with them for life. The participants and the D of E Gold team would like to thank their assessor, Mr Leeper, for attending their presentationsand the D of E staff team, the Principal Mr Oddie and the parents, carers and siblings who came along to listen to thepresentations and support them in completing the final part of their expedition section of the Gold D of E Award. All students are now looking forward to completing the skill, volunteering, physical recreation and residential sectionswhich will enable them to complete the whole award and receive their certificates at a formal presentation in London atSt James’ Palace.Miss Evans - D of E Co-ordinatorBelieve and Succeed
