Shewas an avid quilter.Hazel has lived in Meeker herentire life except a 10-year stint inUtah and three years in Arizona. Shecurrently resides at the WalbridgeWing. She has two children and sixgrandchildren.Hazel was born in a time andplace where hard work and perseverancewere essential for survival. Herparents obviously had tremendoustenacity to endure the challenges ofthe Lime Kiln area, yet the communitythere provided support appreciatedand understood by those courageousenough to call the area home.Hazel Kirkpatrick Rosenlund’s family home on Lime Kiln Hill.Hazel’s passion for history hasbeen handed down to her childrenand the care and respect they havegiven in her latter years is heartwarmingproof of the mother she is.Hazel is yet another example of astory that needs to be told, warrantingat the very least recognition for 92years of strength and service.Sheriff lifts fireban for countyBy BOBBY GUTIERREZbobby@theheraldtimes.comRBC I Rio Blanco Countysheriff Si Woodruff lifted theStage II fire ban in the countyFriday, Sept. 14 but high fire dangerstill exists.Rio Blanco County implementedStage I fire restrictions,banning open fires in unincorporatedareas of the county, June 11.The Bureau of LandManagement, the White RiverNational Forest and the NationalPark Service went to Stage II firerestrictions (banning all openflames) on June 22 and RioBlanco County followed , implementingthe Stage II restrictionsthree days later, canceling Fourthof July fireworks displays inMeeker and Rangely.Rio Blanco County emergencymanager Jon Hutchins said the banwas lifted because of shorter days,cooler nights and recent moisturebut “the issue hasn’t gone away.”“Everybody should still becareful with fire,” Hutchins said.The <strong>Herald</strong> <strong>Times</strong> welcomesletters to the editor on issuesof local interest.
