SOLTEQ ® Equipment for <strong>Engineering</strong> Education & ResearchMODEL: FM 100FLUID FRICTION MEASUREMENTSAPPARATUSTHIS Fluid Friction Measurements Apparatus (Model: FM 100) has been designed for students tostudy on the <strong>fluid</strong> <strong>friction</strong> head losses of an incompressible <strong>fluid</strong> flow. The unit is self contained suppliedwith facilities for students to study the <strong>friction</strong> losses on smooth-bore pipes of various diameters and anartificially roughened pipe. In addition to the study of losses in straight pipes, a wide range of accessories arealso provided including 90 O bend, elbow and T, 45 O elbow and Y, sudden contraction and enlargement, inlinestrainer, various valves and flowmeters.DESCRIPTIONThe investigation on <strong>friction</strong> head losses in variousstraight pipes can be done over a range of Reynoldsnumbers from 10 3 to nearly 10 5 , covering the laminar,transitional and turbulent flow re­gimes in smooth pipe.An artificially roughened pipe is supplied which, at thehigher Reynolds number, shows a clear departure fromthe typical smooth bore pipe characteristics.For each size of test pipe, a short sample is providedloose so that students will be able to measure theexact diameter and visualise the nature of the internalfinish. The ratio of the pipe diameter to distance of thepressure tappings from the ends of each pipe hasbeen selected to minimise end entry effects.
